I am in the process of changing scopes on my BRNO, and just got to wondering about the holes in the action. It is a 1951 vintage with the double square bridge for BRNO/CZ rings. However, there are five filled holes inside the bridge area and I wondered if they are factory driled and tapped.

The photo doesn't show them very well, but if you look carefully you can see two in the rear, two more in the front with the same filler screws as in the rear, then a fifth hole just before the little round logo at the end of the receiver. The fifth hole has a slightly different looking screw in it.

I know there are several very knowledgeable BRNO folks on this forum and hoped one of you can shed some light.

Mine is not drilled & tapped. I don't believe they came from the factory this way. that's what the integral dovetails are supposed to be for.

There shouldn't be any holes. The bolt shouldn't be jeweled either. Not sure if I see a notch in the stock for bolt handle clearence, but if I do, that's been altered also.

The only thing you could really do with a rifle like that is hunt with it and enjoy it for a lifetime.

Yep, I about figured that. Makes you wonder why they'd drill it though. When I got it, I just got a set of Warne BRNO/CZ quick release rings and went hunting with it.

I guess this was done a while back when the only option for scoping it would be to buy the original BRNO rings. I understand they were and still are quite costly.

Someone also added a rubber recoil pad, although I don't think the stock has been cut. As far as I can tell, these are the only mods to the rifle. Doesn't bother me a bit, I'm a user, not a collector. I was just curious.

It sure is a sweet shooting and handling baby.

Yes, they are great rifles, for shooting or collecting. If you ever decide to restore it, you might be able to tig the holes. But it looks like one of the front holes may be through the lug.
