Im getting a .308win for my B-day. And as far as factory (i dont reload yet) what would be a good all around deer, hog (what ever happens to cross my sights) round? ive got 130grn silvertips for my short mag, and 180 grn accubonds for my 30-06. I was wandering if anybody could recomend a lighter bullet than a 180 that could do in a huge GA hog at 150+ yrds?

The 308 seems to give off its best with bullets in the 150-165gr range. I would be quite happy to tackle anything short of hogzilla with a 165gr in a 308.

My .308 is very fond of the Hornady light magnum ammo. 165 BT at about 2800 fps. It has dispatched every hog I've shot with ease.

seems like the 165grn is the way to go. any specific type? balistic tip, bonded, partition?

You could use any of the bonded bullets for sure but bear in mind that hogs, even huge ones, are not difficult to kill. I would stay away from ballistic tips and Sierra game kings but I would tackle the biggest of hogs with any of the non premium spitzers. I shot Corelokt for years killing hundreds of animals before I realized what a huge mistake i was making (lots of sarcasm there).

Honestly, keep it simple! Go to Walmart and for $12 get Some Remington CoreLokt PSP. I've spent many a days chasin' hogs and deer in Georgia. Core-Lokt's won't let you down.

My wife and I have had excellent results with Federal's 165 gr Trophy Bonded Bearclaw factory load. Several deer and pigs have been drop to the shot kills. It does not mess up much meat either.
Also on game like bobcats [taken at @30 and 60 yards], and on coyotes it does not blow big holes in the hide.
It is one of my most favorite loads in the 308, which is one of my most favorite calibers.
