I have a win CRPF in 300 WSM. It will simply push the case to the front of the magazine and the case mouth will stop against the very bottom edge of the feed rail. It does not come out of the magazine. If I set the front of the case on the feed rail the bolt will catch the rim under the extractor right away. With a loaded round once the front of the cartridge starts up the ramp the rim will come out of the magazine and under the extractor. This takes about 1 1/4 inches of bolt travel. With a 155 grain nosler J-4 at 2.818".

Hotcore Yes, the rifle is a .308---I guess I left out that little bit of important info. Can't answer your questions because I don't have the rifle here right now. Didn't have any problems with it while I was working with it. I'm going to try some of the 150 Interbonds when I get it back. It seems to prefer 150's for accuracy. WN

Hey RMiller, Thank you. I never saw anyone describe exactly how they worked. So it is kind of like a Push Feed going in and a Controlled Feed coming out. Would you happen to know how far the current production "Controlled Feed" M70s push the cartridge before it comes out of the magazine? I looked for a Stainless and Synthetic 308Win M70 Featherweight - at an affordable price - for about 8 years. Push Feed would have been fine with me, but I would certainly have tried a CF/PF model or a classic Controlled Feed. Everytime I would find one, I couldn't get a swap or a deal going that any of those GunShop's folks were happy with. Eventually got another Remington which I had for about 4 years and then got a Wby U-Lt which is spoiling me. --- Hey WN, I understand what you mean about some 308Wins seem to just shoot a 150gr bullet better than they do a 165gr bullet. No way to know until you load some up and shoot them that I am aware of though. I've had excellent performance with both IMR-4895 and IMR-4064 in my 308Wins and 150gr bullets. Also had good luck with Varget, but a buddy sold me 6-1# cans of IMR-4064 a few years ago and I'm using it right now. Still performs as great as ever. When I go to the 165gr and 168gr bullets, I've always switched over to H-380 and found the "Starting Loads" in the Hodgdon Manual to be very difficult to beat for pure accuracy. In fact, my current "Who buys the BBQ?!" 308Win Load is the 168gr Sierra and that Starting Load of H-380. Primer seems to vary a bit from rifle to rifle, but the Wby U-Lt is doing right well with the Gold Medal Fed-215s in Fed cases seated 0.005" Into the Lands. It sure is difficult to "reach past" a 308Win for about anything I do. Great cartridge.
