Is there any difference between the 700 Mountain Rifle actions and the usual 700 SPS action? I checked Remington's website and they don't really go into too much detail. Thanks, Dan

The only difference in the "mountain rifle" and the normal 700 is the barrel profile. Typical Rem700's have a muzzle diameter of around 0.660" the mountain rifle barrels are typically 0.550". And of course the barrel inletting in the stock is different. AllanD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day! Thanks Allan. I figured there was no difference but wasn't sure if they were a little slicker than the average SPS or other 700s. -Dan

No, why should they be? Unless you are lucky enough to stumble across one of the Kevlar stocked custom shop rifles.... AllanD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day! The actions are the same, but the metal finishes are very different. The MTN rifles have a fine bead blast finish vs the rougher texture of the SPS models. You really have to see the two side by side to fully appreciate the differences.
