I have the 338 ultra mag. With that rifle I shot
and killed my bear. Anybody else own one? What
did you shoot with it.

I reload for a buddy that has one. He has killed several deer with it. He used to shoot it alot out to 700 yds and it was pretty darn accurate. Neighbor has one too, not sure if he has even shot his or not. I like the 300 RUM but if I were after dangerous game I could see me carrying a 338 RUM.

God Bless, Louis

I have one but have not shot anything with it yet. IMO it is an excellent caliber. To me a rifle should shoot a bullet with a sectional density of .260+ at 2900 to 3100 fps, slower and I would consider it underbore and faster and it would be overbore IMO.

There are a few calibers that live up to that like the 270 win with 140 gr bullets, the 280AI & the 7 mag with 160 gr bullets, the 300 win mag with the 180 gr bullets and the 338 RUM with 225 gr bullets. Of course there are other calibers that will fit within that range.

IME overbores (like the 300RUM) are more difficult to load for and finicky while underbores are easy to load for but short on performance at the longer ranges stir.

The 338RUM is one of those perfect calibers! popcorn

26" #5 Brux with this porting done by Westpac

along with 2 Edwards recoil reducers in the stock

makes for a 10.5 pound pussycat

The porting is not as loud as a muzzle brake (at least other shooters at the range don't complain) and it won't blow your hat off.

I have one and it's great...shoot anything you want with it, short of the thick skinned nasties.

I used it on a plains game trip and it worked great on everything from bushbuck to kudu.

I've seen other rifles with ports. I sent a HS Precision stock to him to shorten for that 270 I gave to my friend and his family in Colorado. Great job. How does your stock recoil system compare to a pachmyer decel pad?

Mine is a Remington 700 Sendaro with SS fluted barrel and composite stock with aluminum bedding block-std. on the Sendaro.

It is one of the most accurate rifles in our safes; it will shoot a three shot group at 200 yards under 1 1/5" with a 200 grain Nosler BT.

I've taken elk, one of my biggest Mule Deer and a coyote at a lazer ranged 718 yards--first shot.

This rifle is absolutely a long range HAMMER! It is a stud. The 338 RUM will kill an elk cold at 1/4 mile + is you are capable and use a premium bullet! Stone Cold Dead! or DTR--Dead Right There! Yep, I think the world of it!

The display of PURE POWER is nothing short of AWESOME !

Yes I do have a brake on that rifle, I take it off when hunting and use a thread protecter so my thread can't get messed up.

I have one, at one time I had two. I have taken Bears with it, in Alsk, BC and Mont.

I have also taken 4 Elk with it. Works great on Elk as Bears. I have used 250 and 225 grain bullets. I now mostly use 225 grain North Fork.

My load with the North Forks.
225 gr.NF
90 grs. VV N-165
Fed. 215 M Primer
Rem. Brass
3050 FPS.
1/2 inch Group.

Works every time.
With this gun you don't need to wory about the angle, you make your own with this rig.

Happy Hunting

I have a 700 LSS 338 RUM with a Mark 4 4.5-14x40mm scope with M1 dials. She is a tack driver and a long range hammer for sure.

My go to bullet is now the Nosler 250 gr AB.

I have taken elk, black bear, WT deer and Mule deer, all have dropped at the shot.

I have a lefty LSS bedded into a McMillian with 16oz sniper fill and a Decelerator pad. She shoots just like yours w. 225gr Hornady's. Great rifle and a hell of a caliber.

WOODS turned me onto this caliber with his nice BRUX!!!! Glad I did it.

I have a Rem 700, 338 RUM with a 28" PacNor. It has an HS Precision stock with a 1 lb mercury recoil reducer, and a vx3 scope. 250 Accubonds and Gamekings shoot best, TSXs not as good. I use 92g of Retumbo for about 3020 fps no pressure signs.

I've shot 1 cow elk with it from about 40 yds. She ran about 100 yds with the double lung shot, go figure. She didn't know she was hit by a .338 RUM.
