Also, thoughts on the L579 vs the newer 75 and 85 3 lug design for accuracy? I understand the newer Sako's have milled slots for 'reverse recoil lug' that works with stock and/or removable lug?
Anyone have experience comparing accuracy pros/cons of various sako renditions?
My 579 shoots really good, but so did my 75. Downs about the 579 is the trigger, and the safe omly blocks the trigger. As far as i have heard, the 579 is pretty common as action to build on here in scandinavia. The 85 I know nothing about, but I dont think it will suck...

Love my L579's. They are one of the only actions which a majority of rebarrelers never had to true up do to factory tolerances not being suitable for the building of an accurate rifle. That said, with new machining practices and CNC techniques, design re enters the arena.

I have a couple of L579 Mannlicher stocked arms. .243 and .308. Wonderful guns and both have been known to down local whitetails quite handily. They have always shot better than minute of deer. Packy
I would only rebarrel a Sako or Tikka myself to change calibers or contour, unless one were truly shot out which I have not seen.
I have thought about a Sako as a platform for a custom rifle. I have confidence in the pre-Garcia's, not sure about final finishing and design of the newer 75/85's. Not a fan of a detach mag that can be lost/damaged.
