I had a 35 whelen with 14" twist, and loved it. Then, got even more sentimental and chambered it to 350 rigby....bad move, a pain in the ass for no realistic advantage.....got made an offer I could´nt refuse, (fortunately) and now its gone. I gotta have a whelen again though and can lay my hands on a Truvello barrel with a 10" twist. Any idea what range of bullet weights I can expect it to stabilise ? All comments accepted without prejudice except crap about the 9.3x62 being better. boet

I can't answer your question as my Whelen is factory Remington 1\16" twist, but I did enjoy your story. Long live the 35 Whelen.

boet, IIRC member okie john has a whelen with a 1-10" twist. He might be able to help you out. Karry

I can't imagine that anyone makes a .358 rifle bullet that you can't stabilize, though there are likely some bullets that are designed for the 35Rem that you might spin apart with some of your "warmer" handloads. Boet. I have a friend who rebarreled a Ruger #1 to .35 Whelen with a 1 in 10" twist. I'm going to cut and paste your question and send it to him. I'm sure there are others who have gone the 1 in 10" route, but he's the only one I know. I think his only gripe was he had the barrel set at 24" rather than staying witht he full 26". Probably, 24" would be better on a bolt action though. Paul B.
