Does anyone know the twist rate for an original pre64 Win 70 in 300 H&H?

The reason I ask, is that I want to try the new Barnes Tippped TSX in 180 grains and they recommend a 1:11 or faster.

Thanks,

RCG

I have had great success on paper with the 180gr TTSX out of my pre 64 300 H&H and RE19. My barrel appears to be a 1 in 12 when checked even so it rally liked the 180's good luck

Bob:

Thanks. I have Re19 and it also appears that many like Re22 as well for this combination.

Pre 64 Win 70 300 H&H bore specs are: 4 grooves, 1 in 10" twist, .300 bore diameter, .308 rifling diameter, and .1760" groove width. FYI same as a 30-06. If your's is 1:12 it must not be the original barrel. 308 Win, 300 Sav, 358 Win, and 375 H&H are the 1:12 model 70's.

Thanks you are correct I was thinking of a .308 that I am currently playing with, perhaps I need to deminish the contents of my safe to keep up with the deminished capacity of my brain...These 180 TTSX are wicked long bullets and re19 seems to allow more room in the case and my gun and my chrony liked it better than re22..Stick with saami lenghths or what fits in your magazine as there will we be what seems like a long distance between the ogive and the rifling hopefully your gun will like them as much as mine did Good Luck

RCG - Just took posession of a pre 64 Mod 70 in 300 H & H yesterday. I have some 180 grain TSX over IMR4350 already loaded and ready to try. It's snowing here today, so will be a few days before it gets it's first test. I'll keep you posted on any and all results. I would appreciate your results as well. Good shooting!!

Larry:

It will be at least two weeks until I start to shoot this rifle. I am pla nning on using the Re22 first but I do have plenty of IMR4350 so I will keep that in mind. I will be trying the 168 and 180 grain Tipped TSX and the regular 180 TSX for starters. If I can't develop these, which I should be able to do, I will try 180 grain North Forks and then Swifts.

I will PM you when I start testing this rifle.

RCG - I'll be working up 180 grain TSX, Nosler Partitions and 180 and 165 Hot cores. It's snowing here again today, so it will be awhile for me as well. I'll PM also with results. Later

Larry
