I make rifle and pistol silencers as a hobby. They are registered on ATF form 1's. My question is for those who make their own or know about their design. How close can I put the blast baffle to the muzzle without greatly increasing the temperature of the muzzle and accelerating its wear? My designs for bolt action guns have the blast baffle near the muzzle, but I never allow them to heat up much. My AR-15 uses a brake to mount the can so the blast baffle is over two inches away. But my AK can has the blast baffle less than an inch away from the muzzle and I recently read that rapid fire can increase the rate at which the muzzle heats up and fails. I know I can simply reduce the rate of fire, but then is not a bolt gun. I could also cut the end caps off and remove one of the baffles downstream of the blast baffle. I would like to know other's experiences before I go to the trouble of removing a baffle or just taking the chance on needing the muzzle recrowned soon after enjoying it at the range. Any suggestions? Thanks. Ranb ______________________________ In my opinion the best accessory to put on a rifle is a silencer. | ||
