Case volume of 24 grains was determined out of load info in a popular load manual for cast bullets… it was listed for 24 grains with a 180 grain cast bullet, therefore we used it across the board… 2.This is an excellent powder for low recoil alternatives to full power loads….Accuracy was excellent in the Enfield and also in a Browning A Bolt tested for accuracy also… Accuracy was not quite as good as Blue Dot across the board, but it did provide accuracy that many other powders would envy.. 2. As always for deer loads, I would recommend the Nosler Ballistic Tips….although not tested, my first choice for deer loads, where the deer are not large sized would be the Nosler 125 grain Ballistic Tip, followed by the Speer 130 FN which is intended for the 30.30….For larger deer, I’d move up to the 150 grainers and above….the 150s and 170 grain bullets intended for the 30.30 would also make an excellent alternative bullets, that will open up at the lower velocities…. 3. The Remington Corelokts that was used for testing also do a great job of penetration and are available and accurate! 4. Powder did not need fillers and was not position sensitive….Testing was done in the 30 to 50 degree range…. 5. Work up all of your own loads from lower than maximum… 6. Interesting. I always liked Unique, particularly when I started reloading. I flat couldn't double-charge a case, which wasn't always true with other powders. Have you any concern about 2,000+/- fps expanding properly? Jaywalker

Jay, All I can say is testing them into media or either milkjug with water, or just hunks of a tree branch.... I'd steer away from some of the primo bullets like the partition... But the Ballistic Tip, Speer Mag Tip and the Barnes X series open up just fine at those lower velocities.... Then there is the always available 170 grain FN intended for the 30.30... I have had it open up at velocities in the 1000 to 1200 fps range.... Even the Rem corelokts have surprised me on their ability to open up at low velocities... My personal pick for hunting with low velocity loads is the ballistic tips... cheers seafire

Did you have any keyholing or erratic groups with the lower charges? Jason
