Has anyone tried using RL 25 in the 35 Whelan Improved? Preferrably with a 225gr bullet.

Thanks

I shoot and reload the 35 Whelen Improved, and don't see what benefit RL-25 would bring to the table.

We're talking interior ballistics not far from a cylindrical case, due to the (relatively) small shoulder.

I wouldn't use anything slower than RL-15.
Even RL-19 is too slow for the velocities I'm shooting for.

I was thinking that I had seen rl25 reloading data for the 30-06 AI and that their case capacities are almost identical. I forgot about how straight the 35 actually is. My current load is RL15 and there is nothing wrong with it.

R15 is perfect for the Whelen. R19 might have its place for really heavy bullets, but r15 gives compressed loads. R25 is a great 8mm Mag or 300 Ultra Mag powder. Too slow.

RL25 isn't even much use in the 7mmMag and 300WinMag

You really have to get to "ultra mags" or the skinny bore HUGE case 300-378wby and 338-378wby based cartridges to make much use of it and even in those RL22 tends to be more useful.

I agree RL15 is probably what you want, failing that give IMR4320 a try.
IMR4064 seems to be the slowest propellant that's really useful in the whelen

RE25 is excellent in the 300 Win Mag. I was able to match fps to fps and psi to psi with a Federal High Energy load and we ain't supposed to be able to do that.

Just for S&G I tried it once in a 348AI. Velocity and pressures were low (as expected) but the fireball was huge and the target paper (at 20 feet) was impacted by unburned powder and looked like I had shot it with a 22 bird shot load. Way too slow for a 35 cal anything.

RL25 is waaay too slow. I've got the best speed with the 35 Whelen AI with Hodgdon Ball C{2}.

Reloader 15 works great in the whelen and whelen improved, and so does Varget. RL 25 is way too slow, you'd need a 35/460 wetherby to use such a slow powder in a 35 caliber.
