Recently I was able to buy 4 boxs of a 100 Norma match bullets in 6.5mm. 2 boxs of 140gr SPBT .264mm diam. and 2 boxs of 156gr RNSP . I have a few questions for you guys. First, the bullets are magnetic will this increase barrel wear? 2nd, the box fell apart on the 156 gr but I think it said .263mm Diameter so can I shoot these in my Ruger #1's 6.5x55 and 264 Win. Mag.? thank you very much

The CIP for the 6.5x55 and the 264WM are different for bore/groove/freebore and twist. Whether Ruger follow the CIP on the 6.5x55 I do not know, best would be to ask them. 264WM bore/groove/freebore and twist = 6.50/6.71/6.81 1:229mm (.256"/.264"/.268" 1:9") 6.5x55 bore/groove/freebore and twist = 6.50/6.73/6.84 1:220mm (.256"/.264"/.269" 1:8.7") I would not shoot copper clad steel jackets in any rifle of mine.

I wouldn't shoot them. they made some 6.5 with 263 dia more for the 1890 European calibers 6.5x53.5R. VFW

I used those 140 gr. SPBT and 160 gr. RNs in my 6.5x54 M/S without any problem. I only wish I could get my hands on the SOB that stole that rifle as it was given to me by a late friend. If I understand it correctly, Norma useds a mild steel copper washed jacket that is supposed to be softer than barrel steels. All I can say is they never hurt the barrel of my 6.5x54. They sure did a serious hurt on the deer I shot with them though. Paul B.

I have used mild steel bullets with coats of other metal from Norma for many years, and by that, I mean at least 55 years. They have never harmed ANY rifle I have ever used them in, including the 6.5 x53R, 6.5x54 M/S, 6.5x55 Swede, 6.5x57 Mauser, 6.5x61 S&H (a wildcat), and the .264 Win MAG. Those Norma bullets are splendid performers, for accuracy, long barrel life, and for killing performance on game. At least, they have been in my rifles. I wish everyone who has any would shy away from them because of the steel in their jackets, and just send theirs to me (Ppd.) to dispose of for them. It would really make this into one fine Christmas!

Paul B and Alberta Canuck, How many shots did you fire with these rifles? Not exactly but approximately. (20 to sight in and then 50 during the season times the years in use or some such indication is ok: eg. 20 + 50 x 10 years = 700)

Since I took my various rifles to the range every single weekend for 21 years (plus every Christmas and every New Years Day, plus other holidays) and usually a couple of other days per week as well, and usually fired an average of about 100 rounds per each day at the range.... Over that period alone, counting just one day on each weekend, and none of the weekdays, and none of the other 29+ years (actually, closer to 39 other years) of my shooting life, I'd say that part alone accounts for about 109,200 rounds, more or less. (100x52x21=109,200) Adding in all the other shooting days in that 21 years, and all the other 39 years, I'd conservatively guess I've fired at least 250,000 rounds through my own center-fire rifles, especiallly as that 21 years doesn't include my 7 years of shooting as a member of Government subsidized teams, including national teams at the international level. The true figure may be as much as half a million rounds, though it may be well short of that too. One thing I never did in my life was set out to count every round I fired. I was too busy shooting, experimenting with rifles, and enjoying it. Certainly not all were steel jacketed, but a goodly number were. My point was/is that I didn't find steel jacketed bullets any more harmful to my rifles' barrels than other bullets. I didn't, and I doubt that too many other folks will either. And the point of your question is......? My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

I have no idea. I got the rifle heired to me by my gunsmith friend when he passed away in the mid 1950's. I have no idea how long he had the gun but it was his always go to rifle for most of his hunting carreer. I know he hunted Alaska and Canada numerous times. I used it for deer and Black Bear when I lived in california and when I moved to nevada it went on many deer hunts not to mention coyote and jackrabbit safaris. That came to an end when some low life piece of shit broke into my vehicle in Elko Nevada and stole that very prized rifle. I did shoot a lot of Norma factory ammo and probably three times as many handloads. I never did try to figure out how many rounds went through the pipe but between Bob (my gunsmith friend) and myself it was a ggoodly number. I do know that Bob, while he was a gunsmith, never trusted or tried reloading ammo for that or any other rifle so while it was in his hands I have to assume it was either Norma or RWS ammo. He did have some Kynoch rounds as well. Paul B.
