I have a Remington 700 BDL in 7mm Express that has a grey gloss finish on all of the metal parts including the bolt. I have never seen this color finish on a factory rifle before. It comes close to the dark grey finish Ruger has used on their Varmint rifles. It appears to be a factory finish because all of the markings on the barrel are very legible. Is anyone familiar with this finish? Thanks. "Big ears doesn't make you a good listener, but big feet will tell on you." - Mr. Bill Clinton

Its probably not the factory finish. It sounds like some brand of hard chrome. You usually have a choice of a shiny finish, a brushed finish or a bead blasted finish. The stamping on the metal will be sharp as these finishes are only .0002 to .0004 thick, less than half a thousandth. They are great finishes though and rust will never be an issue. If it is in fact a hard chrome finish that is a plus. Woody

Sounds either powder coated for looks or Parkerized, depending on what you mean by Gray... I am looking to getting a couple of rifles parkerized.... just like military rifles ( eg, Springfields, or Enfields that had been sent back for refurbishing..)
