I have seen a few of these and it has my interest. The Laredo Long Range Hunters seem to be made at the end of the New Haven production and had a longer, heavier barrel, some with a BOSS and some without. The stock was HS Precision and had an aluminum bedding block molded in the stock. The LRH were the answer to the factory bean field rifles such as the Sendero by Remington I would assume. I did not think much about them at the time. Like a lot of us I have several rifles sandwiched between 25-06 and 300- .338 or so. The last thing I need is another project too. Let's see... I have the 416 to work on and I still need to get to the pre-64 270 project ..... ... you know how it is. My interest in it would be that there maybe arent a lot of them - and that it would be a buy- it- shoot-it accurate rifle right out of the box without much fiddling with it. But maybe not! I searched the board but there really is almost nothing on the Laredo LRH. Almost weird. If I dont do this I'll just get back to the pre-64 264 Winchester Mag looking. Thanks for any inputs.

I've got one that was chambered in 7STW. Out of the box it shot great. I love the stock's appearance and feel. The gun is heavy for sure. Being a young and dumb kid it didn't take me long to ruin the barrel, but I don't think that is the barrels fault. If I had the chance to buy another one I would do it with out hesitation. **************************The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.

TexKD ----- I have shot the Laredo in 7mm STW now for several years. With a Leupold 6.5X20 Vari-X III scope, it drills one holers with 160 gr. bullets with ease, when I do my part. It has the Boss and it will shoot the 140 grainers, but it took me several months to get the same accuracy the 160's got the first day. Keep the barrel from over heating and you are good for several thousand rounds. Good shooting. phurley

Thanks to Phurley5 and to WisTrapper. The input on the stock is good, As is the barrel burning ! Phurley your post were about the only ones in the Med Bores search. It is almost weird that so few of anything is not discussed here at AR. Even more if it is Winchester. About how heavy are the rifles? Neither of you had to true up or re-bed anything huh? Is the BOSS kind of fiddly? Can you take off the BOSS and either replace with a cap or maybe just a brake if you so wanted? The finish is just parkerized or other? Were the triggers good from the box? And finally what is the barrel length on you guys guns? Thanks guys. As I said I did not know a lot about these but it is working on me.

Tex, I don't have one of those rifles, but I do have the stock you mention. I bought it three years ago; had the LOP shortened to 13.5 or something. Grey w/ blk spider web finish; aluminum block; bedding compound included. Mine's made for a M70 rh long push-feed action (2 piece floor). I put it on a featherweight barrel, so I had lots of space in the chanel. The gun shot well with that stock, but beings it was a featherweight, it was the barrel that was the limiting factor in accuracy. I do love the stock - nice classic feel, straight comb, little drop, etc. Weight? heavier than the wood stock I took off the featherweight. friar Our liberties we prize, and our rights we will maintain.

My rifle is quite heavy, I have never weighed it, would guess approx. 12 lbs. The Boss was very easy to set for the 160 grain bullets but real tedious for the 140 grain bullets. I have hunted with it out West for Mule Deer and found it perfect for that game. I would hesitate to use it on Elk, however I use either a .358 STA, .340 Wby or .338 Lapua for them. It is too heavy to pack over the mountain, but for stand hunting it works. It likes 160 grain North Forks, then Nosler Partitions. It worked like a charm straight out of the box, after I set the trigger to 3 lbs. Barrel length 24 inchs. Good shooting. phurley

Great to know. Hmmmmmmmm..... so maybe not the thing to lug in antelope country or possibly in Africa either huh? I was starting to think about the LRH and my Winchester 416 RM as the Africa combo. Of course I was also thinking about just the 416 as who knows how many times it may get used. I am also so going to have to fend off some taunts from my buddies 25-06 Sauer 202 on the range doing some long-er range shooting. SO that is in play too . I have to uphold the Winchester name here. Oh and is that BOSS completely removeable and leaves a thread or something other??? Thank you guys!

The Boss in my Laredo is not removable. This rifle was easy to set for the 160 grain bullet and harder for the 140 grainers, as I previously stated. The beauty of the Boss system is the shooter has to shoot the rifle to set the Boss, that is good IMO. Too many hunters shoot as little as possible and then go hunting, prepared or not. There is nothing that prepares better than shooting, the more the better. Good shooting. phurley

It would not be my first choice for lugging around too far, unless you gain a ton of confidence in it. Confidence makes rifles a lot lighter for me. If that Laredo shoots like mine did out of the box, you'll have NO trouble upholidng the Winchester name **************************The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.

Roger that! Thank you phurley. I got some deciding to do!

Well I did decide - and I got the Laredo in 7MM Rem Mag with a 26 inch barrel and without the BOSS. A couple of final questions: 1.) What scope powers are you using? Phurley says he has a 6 x 20 VXIII. Is that about right for this long ranger? I have a Leupy 4.5 x 14 AO but I think it might go to finance a new scope for this rifle. I have really gotten used to the Swarovskis but it might be Leupold yet. Do you have the knobs on your scope? 2.)Have you loaded any Bergers for it? I have the Noslers in stock in 160 and 140 and Accubonds too, a box of Sierra 160 GK's and one box of Hornadys - but no Bergers. The BC looks insane at near .640 or so.

My laredo started life with a 6.5 X 20 VXIII but it got put on my varmint rifle. It now wears a 4.5 X 14 VXIII. Either one will suit you well. Have fun with your new rig! **************************************** **************************The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.
