Has anyone used this round outside the k-11/k-31 context ?

I know blaser makes barrel for it.

Anyone else makes a 7.5x55 hunting rifle?

How does the round compare to 308 ect for hunting?

Thanks,

Mike

I have a BSA model CF2 in 7.5x55. In a strong bolt action it handles loads several grs heavier than the K31 will handle and delivers 30-06 performance. Except for size of the case head it would be almost identical to the wildcat 30-284 win. (30-06 performance in a short action). Several European gun makers made bolt action rifles in 7.5x55 but they are seldom seen in North America.

For a while I owned a Sako Model 75 which had been rebarreled with a Sako L579 heavy barrel rechambered to 7.5x55. Yes, weird, I know, and I have no idea why its original owner set it up that way. At any rate, the Swiss brass was heavy and good. It wouldn't match .30-06 velocities, but it would exceed the .308 by a bit.

The 19th Century case design was WAY ahead of its time with its relatively short length, larger diameter, sharp shoulder, and little taper. It is the original "short magnum".

The Swiss brass I have seen is military and has berdan primers which are not for me. The brass I have is all PPU headstamped. Capacity is identical to some 06 military brass I have. This was measured by filling the case full to the top with a fine ball powder . When poured into the 06 military brass the same powder fills the military brass to the top. I also compared the PPU brass to Fed commercial 06 brass. The Fed 06 brass would hold 2.5 grs more H335 powder than the PPU 7.5x55 brass. Not much difference.

I have a Fox Ridge T/C Encore rifle barrel in 7.5 Swiss. Have only used it on one buck thus far, but the Wolf Gold 174gr SP worked as good as anything. I'd like to have a nice European bolt gun in it and missed out on a Voere so chambered a few years ago that popped up on GunBroker.

I have shot one doe with my 7.5x55 and it was with a K31. 150 grain Hornady Interlocks did a fine job. I always compare it to a .308.

It is a ballistic twin to the 308/7.62NATO. It'll do anything a 308 will do and a little. not bad for a cartridge introduced in 1908 and put in use in model 1911. 26" tube NATO 2550fps Swiss 2550fps. If you want/need the 7.5X55 get a 1911 or 1931 model Swiss government action, or get a custom made action. Shop around. Best
