I've always been intrigued with the tactical BAR. Now that they are rumored to be discontinued and the prices dropped to $999, I decided to give it a try. I picked up the 16" medium contour barrel version because I wanted to keep the weight down and it was going to be a woods/stand/truck gun. I used Leupold rings to mount a 2-7x Firedot. Overall length is a handy 37.5" and weight with scope and rings came in at 8 lbs 10 ounces which is pretty good for a tactical type 308 semi auto rifle. Most start at that weight without scope/mount. The barrel is fluted, parkerized, chrome lined with a recessed target crown. I had just enough time to take it too the range before a Thanksgiving hunt. I loaded up 3 bullets with the same powder charge. 165 Speer & Hornady BTSP & 168 NBT all over 46 grains of MR2000. Results were 1.16"-1.57" for the different bullets even with 20 mph wind gusts. I decided to take the Hornadys hunting since it was sighted in with those. I'll try more loads after hunting season but it's definitely accurate, compact and relatively lightweight for what it is. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but the FNAR is a very good value.

Nice looking rifle. I seriously considered getting one over a BAR primarily because of the larger magazine capacity. In the end I got an H&K Slb 2000. It is a semi-auto .30-06 that holds 10 in the magazine + 1 in the chamber. Somewhat rare here in the US, but still sold in Europe.
