I regularly shoot several Lee Enfields. My favourite is a Mk1 made in 1904, original wood and action, but with the present barrel put on in 1948 - it having been a target rifle since 1919 - a 30 year rest in a gun safe until 2000, when I started shooting it on a 300 - 500 rounds yearly basis with cast bullets. It is in very good condition. Hunting ?, I have a very good condition 1908 brazilian mauser in 7 x 57mm with fully original barrel and action and original sporterised wood. These old rifles - well looked after - are just as good as todays wonder rifles in polymer stocks. Arte et Marte

I too wonder what will happen to some of the plastics. Will they dry out and crack? Warp? or look just like they do now. I think guns will last longer than the dashboard on my truck. On the other hand Stainless Steel, CNC machined precision components. Yea they will last longer and look better. I would be willing to bet that some of the new wood finishes will last longer than earlier stuff. DW
