I think they have a winner. if you read the complete story. they could not get the 338wsm to work. they pretty well got the same results out of the 325wsm (.323). If they load it with the 150 grainers also it would be one mean deer and elk gun to the big and bad 220 for bears and what not. it would spark a new interest in the 8mm bullets and give us some more choices.

I think I have read 4 or 5 articles on this cartridge now.

At first I thought it was really wierd that Winchester would chamber for it instead of the 338 or 358. I have read that they did this for a few reasons.

1. All cartridges above .338 sell like shit.

2. They couldnn't douplicate 338 Winchester Magnum performance in the 338 WSM.

3. While there is nothing new the 8mm caliber, it was one that would be a slight enough improvment in power over .308 WSM that Winchester Propaganda folks could sell it.

While I personally wanted a .358 WSM or RSAUM I am will probably end up buying a 323 WSM for these reasons.

1. You can get it in the Kimber 8400 Montana, I would like to see it with a heavier and fluted barrel, but it's a nice light elk killer.

2. No it's not a 338, it's not even a 8mm Remington Magnum. But it is a slight performance improvment over the 300 WSM and it's available in some great rifles. The other Kimber 8400 Montana I want to buy is the 7mm WSM. The two would be a nice match on a plainsgame safari or for a guy that only wanted two rifles, yet similar rifles for Western Big Game.

3. You can get some really great bullets living in Europe for the 8mm.

I guess we will see if history likes this one or not. I am hoping Big Green comes out with a 358 RSAUM in the M700 Ti for 2006.

D99,

I also would like a Kimber Montana in 7MM WSM but they are scarse as hens teeth. The only one I have ever seen was at the Tulsa Gun Show last Spring. I have kicked myself a 100 times for not buying it but at the time I didn't know how hard they were to find. I looked at one of the 325 WSM's at Shields in Sioux Falls and they are a sweet little rifle, but as light as they are I bet the recoil would be stiff.

As far as I'm concerned, Kimber is creating the very best WSM-chambered rifles available in their Model 8400. I bought a Montana in 300 WSM, and it shoots very well (5 shots under 1"), and did right out of the box with factory ammo. The walnut stocked Model 8400 Super America is extremely nice if you perfer wood.

If I wanted a 325 WSM, I'd go with Kimber, no doubt about it........

I shot a new M70 Classic Super Shadow in 325 WSM with the factory 180 gr load. Two shots from a hand held position off the bench went in one hole.

That rifle is ugly as sin and has rubber where rifles used to have checkering.

The owner took it to Africa that weekend and hit some antelope at about 400 yds with it and anchored the beast right there.

IMO The 8mm IS The most vesitile "medium bore"

The 8mm WSM coupled with the 7mm WSM should just about cover all the bases. (For meduium bores that is)

I'm quite fond of the Kimber montana and will be picking one up in 300 WSM in short order. As far as the 325, I simply can't warm up to the 8mm, there just isn't the bullet variety that is offered in other chamberings. I'm also planning to build a 350 wsm that will pretty much clone the montana, but have a 22" tube. I'm sure the 325 could more or less do the the same job I'd ask of the 300 and 350, but wouldn't excell at the specific rolls I'd ask of each rifle.

Isn't the 8mm a .323 dia bullet. Why doesn't somebody change the name of the 8mm to the .323
It would sound better.

I am interested in 325 WSM. I think it can be a perfect rifle for drive hunting. It can be more compact than an standard action, it is slightly less powerful than a 8X68 S, and here in Europe we have plenty of excellent bullets for a 8 mm. This caliber it is not avaliable in my country yet, but the first rifle it arrives to Spain I want to get it. I am a fan of 8x68 S, and this cartridge I think it can be an excellent all around for hunting in Europe, as the 8x68 S have proved to be.

I spoke to someone who had tested a number of them and said that groups were under an inch and that the recoil was there.

The groups may have been fired in a machine rest. Of that I am not positive but the rifles are capable.

I have two Kimber rifles and am thoroughly pleased with them. That said, what can the .325 do that the .300 can't? I spoke with Kimber a few weeks ago about a rumored long action, and was told that one is in the works. If they come out with a .338 Montana, I'll own one.
