Does anyone make a semi-auto sporter in 223, 7.62 x39, 6.8, 6.5G etc... that is not a nasty black rifle?

Winchester SXR, Remington 7400 both in a variety of cartridges. Also SKS is a wood stocked rifle, I have one that is very accurate 7.62x39

Benelli R1, not sure about your calibers, though. Browning BAR is another option.

SIG 400 FDE is not black, the FDE stands for Flat Dark Earth - sort of a dark tan.

Reminton and Browning make nice autos with wood stocks and it some nice calibers. I liked the old 30 Rem. and 25 Rem in the mod. 81 and 8, some of those are still floating around..

I have a very nice Remington Model 8 in .30-30 Rem. I had it completely refurbished about 6 months ago and I have custom ammo and brass for it. I've shot it about 10 times. It's accurate but for my failing eyes I really need a scope.

I think I have a good guess what you are looking for - something that is legal under NYC firearms law. I used to have a NYC resident permit - gave it up when they wanted me to list all my firearms including stuff I had in Florida.

Yes that is what I was thinking about. I should have bought one of each of the H&K's. They made them in 30-06, 308 and 223.
