getting a good tax return in a couple weeks. and of corse I have spent it a dizen times over allrady in my mind. I have posetd on lots of want's here, another 35 whelen or .257 roberts, a 300 win would be good too. But right now i am thinking .270 win. I have never had any luck with rifles chamberd for the .270. None have been up to par. The 1st ws a ADL remington, that was ok but not geood enough. The one i have now is an expensive custom pre 64. It really has disapointed me. My marlin 45/70 gets 3 shot groups right around MOA , and i would be real happy with that in a .270. The ones I am thinking of are 3 FNs I am aware of. One is a sears FN in great shape and I could get it cheap enough to mount a real good scope one it. I would not mind a CZ 550 american, if i could find one, and one of the new Kimbers would be wonderfull, but a little spendy. I took a long look at a CDL Remington I could get for 509.00, but I just prefer a CRF. Remingtons version of the Zastava would be cool. I also know of a beautifull FN delux in .243 I could learn to love, and a springfield in 35 whelen i could get into cheaply but it has a thumbhole stock witch I would have to replace, I don't know what sounds good guys, There was also a real nice Martin Guitar I plaed in a shop the other day,, this is a time of year I love and hate at the same time...tj3006
Thomas, mine should be pretty good too (the return that is). If it wasn't already spent on miscellaneous bills and Wyoming antelope and deer tags, I think I'd shoot for a Kimber in .300 WSM or .308. I really like those little rifles...

I assume this is a Model 70 Winchester. First question whats wrong with it? Those are excellent rifles and a 1 MOA hunting rifle is what you should have. I would spent the dollars to troubleshoot and fix that rifle.
I grew up with a pre 64 model 70, chambered in 270 Win, I still mentally judge all my rifles to that rifle.

I would be fixing this one first. A good pre 64 is gold and not many get the opportunity to own one. My .270 is the most accurate and dependable rifle in the safe. Check it out. BT53
Thomas: I'd go with the CZ 550 American to compliment your CZ 550 Full Stock in 7x57mm. Of course, you can go all the way and get a CZ 550 Full Stock in .270, but I imagine that the muzzle blast on that puppy would be significant. There are several CZ 550 Americans in .270 Winchester on GunsAmerica.com, but the only problem there is, you can't go through them looking for the stock you like. You get the luck of the draw with some clerk going back into the warehouse, grabbing a boxed CZ 550 American saying .270 Winchester on it and then hoping for the best with the stock. Good luck Thomas and glad to see you're getting a good refund. If I had the money, and I don't, but if I had the buckies I'd get a CZ 550 Action, send it off to PacNor and have it barreled in a 20.5 inch stout barrel in .338/57 O'Connor caliber. I would then send the barreled action off to www.serengetistockworks.com and have them build me on of those manlicher (I know I screwed the spelling up on that one) stocks in a premium grade Claro Walnut. Go to the Prices icon, click on it and scroll down until you see Manlicher Stock and click on it and drool. Can you see it ... That would make one sweet little brush outfit topped with a Leupold glass. Oh well, just a thought. Good Luck ... Tom Purdom

Well I been thinkin hard about a CZ 550 American in .270 If I bought one I could slap a Decent scope on it and I just bet it would shoot like gang busters. About my custom .270.Let me 1st piont out that I have 2 other pre 64 featherweights and the .308 is good while the 30,06 is excelent ! I bought the 270 for about 500.00 it had a canjar trigger and a recoil pad. It would give about an inch and a half to two inches with everything I fed it. Tried free floating , no improvment sent it to pac nor for a cryo match grade barrel, no improvment. Bought a Rimrock stock, still shoots about 1.5 moa. Cant think of anything else to do with it. By the way it aint me, I shoot prety well off a bench. I just gave it to a good smith and said see what you can do with it. if it does not improve I am done with it. I might just start over again and go with a .257 roberts barrel this time but I think I would rather trade it...tj3006
