I am seriously thinking I need something on the lines of a CZ 550 FS with the 20.5" barrel in either 30/06 or 9.3X62. I was just wondering what the felt recoil was like with the Bavarian type buttstock. I am planning on mounting a 2.5X Leupold on it but looks like the stock is more geared to using iron sights.

The 308 and 7x57 are negligible. The 9.3x62 is a bit sharp according to a gunsmith who zeroed one. I have shot the 7x57 and 308 and see no big deal.

I have one in 9.3 that's probably my favorite rifle. I shoot it with 250-gr TSX handloads that are right at max. I don't think it's any worse than my .30-'06. I have not had the need to shoot any 286-gr bullets but I wouldn't hesitate to if I needed them. If you are an experienced rifleman I don't think it will bother you at all.

Steve I the same concerns when I bought my cz550FS in 9.3 years ago.
I had read all kinds of articles on what a great killer the round was so I was expecting a hard kicker. Man, I was surprized by the lack of pain...lol
I'm thinking about buying another cz550fs and rebarreling to something bigger.
The stock works just fine.

Cheers, John

I just put a box of Hornady 286 grain bullets through my 9.3 fs and was pleasantly surprised at the recoil, I believe my 35 Whelen ( Ruger Hawkeye) gives a slightly sharper punch.

I appreciate all the replies. I was curious as I've never shot with a stock that appearred to have so much drop

Its a little sharp on my 9.3. I would get the medium or low scope mounts to keep your head down on the stock. And the double set triggers put your hand closer to the trigger guard. I have been rapped pretty good on my middle finger more than once. I put a strip of moleskin behind the trigger guard, in case I am not wearing gloves and forget to hold on tight.

I have a 375 H & H Safari with the euro stock. I happen to like this design, as I was trained on them by some germans. No problem for me.

I use 286gr Nosler Partitions in my 9.3 CZ550 FS. It doesn't seem to kick any more than a 30-06 with a traditional stock. It's a nice rifle. I wouldn't mind getting another one in a smaller caliber.

I am not sure if you are talking about the Luxe style stock, but if you are, the CZ I had in 458 had that style stock and was lighter by almost 2 pounds than the Ruger 77 458 that I had and the CZ was much more pleasureable to shoot with the exact same loadings, even off the bench.
