I was fortunate enough to happen on a pretty nice manlicher stocked mauser 98 chambered in 35 whelen earlier in the year. It was smithed my a local guy of some renoun during the seventies. I had not had a chance to bloody it until this past weekend. I have loaded it with 225 gr. nosler ballistic tips over 55 grains of varget. Shoots one ragged hole three shot group at 100 yds. I have it zeroed 2" high at 100 yds.
It did not let me down this past weekend.

Took a fair buck at 55 paces. He was facing straight on and looked like he was about to bolt so I shot through a bush and dropped him like a bad habit.

The Texas hill country hoglet (code for small hog) had his ticket punched at 120 yds. Its amazing what a 225 gr pill will do when placed between the shoulder and ear.

Any way ya' gotta love whelen on those critters.

Very nice. Take your pick. Rifle, deer, hog, etc... Very well done, but I'd say the rifle is my pick. Pretty nice whitetail ther.

Congrats,

David

Took my wife deer hunting for the first time 2 weeks ago in the Texas Hill Country. She dropped a nice buck at 100 yds. with our .35 Whelen. It is a Remington Model 750. We were shooting 250 grain soft points. I took a nice buck that afternoon. Both deer dropped at the shot. The whelen is an impressive round.

My wife is now claiming the rifle. Smiler

Fine looking bucks, mighty attractive young lady. Here's wishing you and yours an enjoyable and safe remainder to your hunting season and happy holidays.
