Thinking about changing the caliber of my 30/378 Accumark. I still love the 30/378 and will keep the barrel but just want to do something different. Thinking about changing the caliber to the short magnum 7.21 Lazzeroni Tomahawk. Only reason to pick this cartridge is it has the same case head dimensions as the 30/378 and no work to the bolt head would be required. Due to the difference in case length between the 30/378 and the Tomahawk it would require installing a block in the rear of the magazine to make it feed and function properly. I think it would be a straight forward barrel change and will probably go with a Shilen barrel. What other cartridges have the same case head dimension as the 30/378? I really do not want to alter the face of the bolt head. Just want to touch base with the experts for anything I am missing or just your comments, or just a different perspective on such a project would be appreciated.

With such a long action, it would make much more sense to go with a full sized Lazz cartridge. You have the length and bolt face to accomodate it, might as well go big or go home Big Grin

If you want to go big, go to the 550 Magnum. it uses the big Weatherby case blown out to 55 caliber. Very economical to shoot at one round between visits to the physical therapist, lol.

Why not just load your Weatherby cartridge to the velocity of the Lazzeroni cartridge?

be a lot simpler than changing the entire barrel....and a lot less costlier...
