JohanvScope for .338 win mag
Kahles with multizero. Are there any advantage to use this scope on a .338 win mag? Still searching for a scope!

jro45I have a Leupole 4X12X40 on mine. It handels the recoil and gives a clear picture

ireload2The 2X7 Leupold has more than adequate magnification for the size of game hunted with a 338. It also has greater eye relief than most to protect your face.
I have a 3-9 leupold on mine and I think it is fine, I would be equally happy with a 2-7 leupold. I have no experience with the scope you mention.

woodsHey Johan
I just got a Kahles 4x12x52 MZ scope and after fooling with it understand how it works now, but have not used it in the field. Of course, the MZ will be a advantage in that you can put it on any rifle or set it for any load.
If you go to this
this Kahles site and download one of the videos (I used the .wmv one) it will give you a demonstration of the MZ.
Another option for the 338 win mag would be to get a TDS reticle in a Swarovski or in a discontinued Kahles AH and it will fit the trajectory of the 338 real close. Also the Burris Ballistic Plex reticle (not the Ballistic Mil Dot) will fit the 338 trajectory.
IMO, if I were buying a new scope I would look seriously at the Swarovski with the TDS. Great scopes and more convenient to use. A 338 is used mostly for walk hunting and maybe quick shots and the reticle already being in the scope might be better than having to reach up and set the range on the turret. I'm using my MZ on a 26" barreled 280AI for long range stand hunting.
This Swarovski scope would be a sweet scope for a 338.

p dog shooterAny good 3x9 with any of the multi-plex reticles in them. Be they be the Burris, leupold or any of others.
I replaceing most of my plain cross hairs with multi-plex of some kind mil-dot- hunter plex- balistic plex.
Those with a laser range finder makes hitting out to 500 easy.
pick the brand you like mount it and go out and shoot it.

LRH270On mine I've tried 1.5-4.5 Weaver, Weaver K4, 2x7 Leupold, and have settled on a 3x9 Nikon.

f224Either the Kahles 2-7x AH w/the TDS or a Schmidt & Bender 1.5-6x Zenith with the lighted L9. I have both set up for my 338WinMag Blaser R93.

JohanvAny advantage to the MultiZero system? Does it work that well and keep zero?

PeglegZeiss Conquest scopes are a good value for the money. Right at the cost of the vari-X 2's by Leupold.

Thebear_78leupold 2-7, 2.5-8, or 3-9 are all hard to go wrong with. High magnification isn't needed on a 338 because the intended game is quite large to begin with and you will run out of ooomph before you run out of magnification.

sierra2Kahles, Leupold, Schmidt&Bender scopes should be best. I tried a Weaver V4.5 on my first .338 Win Mag and watched the scope disassemble itself one day at the range.

Personally thismight have value as a varmint scope.......the 338 hardly qualifies as this.

Thomas JonesI vote leupold VX3 2.5X8, just a great scope,
and for the price of the kahles , you might get a second leupold or another rifle...tj3006

Here's one on
ebay.
A lot cheaper than a
new one.
Side focus and all, should be a good one!

sputsterAccording to the website,
http://www.kahlesoptik.com/index.php?menu=1&seite=16It looks pretty high speed, but you would be slowing down to adjust the turret for the correct zero distance, to aim dead on (kind of like using a scope with a ballistic cam? Or am I mistaken?). Like the others say, considering the size of the beast you will be shooting at coupled with the power of the .338, it's a bit much, maybe better for lighter rounds at smaller targets.
My solution is a Leu 2.5x8 VX-III on a .340 Weatherby.

Yes, you would have to look up at the top turret to adjust the yardage and then aim dead on. Usually though, when walk hunting the shots that have to be taken quick will be at a shorter range and no adjustment will be needed. For the longer shots there will usually be time to make the adjustment.
BTW, there are many
MANY scopes better than a
Leupold!
IMO

Thomas JonesBuy the scope you want, and enjoy.
But In my honest opinion, a 2.5X8 leupold is all the scope you will ever need on a .338 win.
You might want more, and might like somthing els better , so byy all means buy what you want.
But should you ever take a game animal with your .338 and a whatever 1000.,00 or more dollar scope, tell me how come you would have missed with a 2.5X8 VX3 for 400.00.
By the way if i were rich i would be going schmidt & bender or swarovski. (any body seen the new VX-7?) but I can't see a good leupold as a disadvantage of any consiquence...tj3006

Fast EdI have to add my vote for the VX-III 2.5-8. This scope on my .338 is a match made in heaven.

KY NimrodIf you'll be riding on a horse and using a saddle scabbard the small, short, straight tubes like my Leupold 1.5-5C VX-III has much in its favor. The bigger the scope the bigger the profile. The bigger the profile the more likely the probability it gets broken when the horse rubs against a tree etc. Its also much easier to get in and out of the scabbard. 5X is more than enough power for elk out to 400 yards.
