It happened again!

Went to the range with a friend. He was shooting a 7 mag Vangard with a Leupold VXIII 3.5x10x50 and I had guns with a Zeiss Conquest 3x9x50, a Zeiss VM/V 2.5x10x50 and a Kahles 3.5x10x50. He would shoot and get up to go use the range spotter. I started telling him where he was hitting with whatever scope I was using at the time.

He finally got frustrated and asked how I could see the holes. I just took the Conquest over and set it on his bags. He said he wished he could afford a Zeiss because he could not only see the holes but ragged edges as well. After I told him I only paid $419.00 for it he was flabbergasted.

Gave him the opticzone website and he now has a Zeiss Conquest 3x9x50 on order. I didn't push him at all just let him come to his own conclusions.

I've had a VXIII 2.5-8 scopes on most of my rifles since the vxIII's fist came avalable, and got a Conquest 2.5-8 when I sold one of my Leupolds to a guy who came through and had his scope go bad the day before he was to start his hunt. Comparing the two side by side it took a while but both myself and one of my shooting partners were able to see a difference in the two scopes. As the light was going down with the Leupold we could see just the outline of the dust boot on the steering damper of a car about 2 blocks away. Whith the conquest we could not only see the shape but the texture and the dust that was collected by the oil that had leaked onto the boot. You can bet that my serious hunting rifles are all getting Conquests as I upgrade.

Yes it's cocked, and it has bullets too!!!

I own both Leupold and Zeiss conquest scopes.

The Leupold is on a 338 Win mag and the Zeiss is on a 300 Weaterby mag.

The Leupold is a varix II 4 x 12 ao with 50 mm objective and the Zeiss is a 3 x 9 40 mm objective.

I like the Zeiss better in all catagories especially because there is hardly any diffrence in eye releif when changing power.

There's nothing wrong with the Leupold I just like the Zeiss better. I think it's clearer and sharper and gathers more light.

I love my scopes, ive owned pretty much everything except Burris.

I still have a nightforce, S&B, swarovski, 2 x zeiss vm/v`s and leupold vxiii.

Im slowly selling all except the Zeiss and each new one from now on will be zeiss. Just ordered a 6-24x72.

I do a lot of my shooting at dusk or at night and for low light optical clarity the zeiss vm/v`s are the best for me by a significant margin. All my scopes are 50mm objective and up and tend to be variable high mag which means on the lowest mag setting im only getting down to 6 or so and the dusk performance is still excellent.

I shoot with a freind who has a conquest and whilst its good I can still resolve and hit varmints perhaps 15 minits after he can at dusk. Ok im younger than he is. Of those ive tried only the S&B comes close. Did look at a Meopta which was good as well but never owned one.

The leupold is very good but the eye relief changes with the mag to much.

Cant wait till the 72mm arrives!

I just pulled my 3.5x10 Leupold and put a 4.5x14 Conquest on my coyote gun for two reasons. Side by side, the Zeiss looked better to me and will be used every weekend for coyotes.

I feel the 3.5x10 Leupold is good for a few shots at deer and have several on other deer rifles that I won't replace.

If I can find another zeiss on sale, I will replace another Leupold so I have Conquests on my main guns.

Sorry for not elaborate more...

I have owned and field-tested both, so at least form me...

The Leupold hands-down.

Right now my choice (and what I use) are a pair of Leupolds Mark 4. Awesome scope Big Grin

I have hunted with Leupolds for quite a few years and never had a problem with them. But since the Conquest series came out, and since Leupold imposed their policy of minimum advertized prices on their dealers, I have bought Zeiss to Leupold scopes in a relationship approaching 15:2 (including 3 or 4 Zeiss Diavaris).

What I like better in the Zeiss:
- rapid focusing ability
- better reticle design (heavy outers, thin inners)
- better POI adjustments
- probably better optics
- all in all better value for the money.

What I still like very much about the Leupolds:
- great service organization
- customization options (e.g. custom reticles)
- still an extremely reliable scope in the field.

One more vote for the Conquests, but the VX-IIIs are not bad either.

I have 16 leupolds and 5 zeiss. 3 pair zeiss binoclar. My vote is for the Zeiss but the conquest is a drop in quality from the older C and Z series.
