Hello All, I was just perusing the Kreighof website and I noticed they are offering their double rifles in caliber 8x75RS. I have never heard of this particular caliber before. I tried doing a basic internet search for this caliber but didn't find anything. Any information, ballistics, availability, personal experience with this caliber is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Best regards, Longfeather

It is basically a 9.3x74R necked down to .323". If you do a Google search for 8x75R instead of 8x75RS, you will find a lot of info. It's an early 20th century German round. Seems like I saw a reference to rimless version, as well, intended for magnum length mausers, but not sure. Matt FISH!! -http://www.armements.net/8x75r.htm- Translated from French using google translate: ENGLISH Sporting ammunition developed in 1910 for the Jeffery rifle in one shot and for rifles with juxtaposed guns. She wanted to be a commercial rival of the English calibers used in Africa, but did not have a good distribution. It is an angular bead case crimping a projectile of either 0.318 "or 0.323". The 8x75R is in the same ballistic niche as the .300 H & H magnum. Matt FISH!! Longfeather: The 8x75RS was one of the early high velocity rounds. It is basically the 9.3x74R necked down. In other words, it's like a .30-06 case lengthened to almost 3". There was also a rimless version, the 8x75S, also using .323" bullets, and the J-bore 8x75 and 8x75R using .318" bullets. The only ballistics for the S-bore version that I have on hand are from "Cartridges of the World", which lists a 198 gr. bullet at 3050 fps (manufacturer not indicated). The data I have for the J-bore versions is for DWM, from a reprint of the 1932 Stoeger's catalogue. It lists the same ballistics for both the 8x75R and the 8x75, with two bullet weights and two velocity levels each. Converted from metric and 25m distance, they claimed muzzle velocities for a 154 gr. bullet of ~2680 fps or ~2985 fps, and for a 196 gr. bullet of ~2415 fps and ~2705 fps, from a 28.3" barrel. However, they also loaded heavier bullets at one time, as the 8x75 round in my collection is loaded with a long round nose that must be in the 227 to 244 gr. range, as the cartridge is 3.86" in overall length (one of the reasons Mauser had to make a magnum length M98 action). The 8x75RS, at least, was made by RWS, as they made the one that I have in my collection, but it isn't listed in any of the RWS ballistic data that I have on file. My understanding is that these rounds died off as a result of WWII, but that the 8x75RS has been relatively recently been revived. Hope this helps. Cheers, Al

The 8x75R is a great caliber, really a magnum caliber. I used to own a Merkel sidelock double rifle in this caliber. I highly recommend it. Almost the equivalent to a .338 mag.
