I was thinking of picking up a Ruger Hawkeye in 300 RMC left hand and have it rechambered to 300 WSM.....Looking at dimensions I was thinking all that would need to be done is run a 300 WSM finish reamer in ?.... My only concern is magazine length on the Ruger Hawkeye...I would be ordering the gun and cannot find one locally to check it ....I already have dies and brass for 300 WSM and bullet I would be using would never be loaded in the 300 RMC....when traveling it would be a lot easier to find ammo while traveling if needed.

Before you do this, put a couple of WSM in the magazine and see if they will feed?

I tried to rebarrel a magnum M 700 action and it will not feed WSM cases with alteration.

The Ruger MkII SA was factory chambered in both 300 RSAUM and 300 WSM; I’m not sure if they used the same magazine box or a difference box.

Since your Hawkeye SA is just an update of the MKII there’s no reason why it couldn’t be re-chambered from 300 RCM to 300 WSM; the WSM chamber reamer will completely cleanup the RCM chamber.

I also recommend purchasing a Ruger MKII 300 WSM magazine box as it’ll already be properly configured for the WSM cartridge..

As far as cartridge length – the action will accommodate the SAAMI COAL for the 300 WSM.

Be advised, some individuals complained the 35º shoulder angle of the WSM caused poorer feeding than the 30º shoulder angle of the slightly shorter 300 RSAUM case. Regardless, the gunsmith performing the re-chamber work should be able to polish things up to eliminate the feeding issues.

I had two MKII SA SS rifles in 300 RSAUM, my son has one and my son-in-law has the other. Only reason I'd have preferred the 300 WSM vs the 300 RSAUM is because ammunition is cheaper and more readily available.

Both of mine were close to 2.97" internal length; I don't have ready access to either rifle so can't quickly measure for exact length.

Called two gunsmiths yesterday here in Michigan to see if they could or would do a rechamber.....one said they needed to do some research and see the gun if it would be just a clean up cost around $150....the other who is a partner if a reamer manufacturer and I would prefer that they do the work said it cannot be just cleaned up and can only quote a price with it sitting on the counter....today I will order one when I get it in my hands figure out what can be done with it

Thanks for everyone's in put....CW

May I ask the reason for the rechamber? When I get home I will pull some measurements on my 300 RCM if you would like. I have had no problems getting brass or loaded ammo.

medved.....the MRC stock to me is something from the 60's....the only way it could be uglier is add some white line spacers and some diamond inlays..... never liked the Weatherby look, never will....I prefer a classic straight lined look.

Also they are part of Freedom Group....I will not buy any products from companies that are owned by them....it's my own personal protest against them after they took over Remington and wouldn't do warranty work to my rifle purchased pryer to there acquiring Remington.

Go for it. I have a Ruger Hawke 338RCM that I rebarreled to 35Sambar. No changes except the barrel. Feeds and works fine.
