My youngest son informed me that mother has a direct line to Santa Claus! Thought I might place a call for a new Ruger stainless in 270 WSM. Before I do that I was wondering if any of the forum members that have experience with this round could comment on the velocities achieved through the 22 inch pipe v.s. a 24 incher. In other words, does one lose the velocity advantage (real or perceived)in using a 22 inch barrel as found on the Ruger as compared to a 24 inch barrel on a Brownchester? Merry Christmas to all and thanks in advance for your opinions and advice.

Hi 6MM: Savage99 has it correct about 25FPS per inch. It will probably loose 50 FPS. I have a 270 WSM in a SS Winchester Mod 70. I absolutely LOVE this caliber. Shot three PA Whitetail Buck so far, and all were boomflops, never took another step. This is a LUCKY rifle, it shoots 130, 140 and 150 Factory Winchester ballistic tips ALL in one inch MOA and below. My factory 130's clock @ 3330 FPS from my Chrony. I got a Boyds Brown Laminate Stock and finished it with a Black Ebony forearm tip, steel pistol cap and nice recoil pad. Looks real nice against the SS. Godd Luck with the Ruger... They are good rifles in my book also. Regards... Jim P.

I agree with the 25 fps/1" however I would take a hard look at a Winchester or Browning.
