I just picked one up in the Euromark persuasion and was wondering who might have one and what experience they have with it. I have used the 300 Wby and 7mm Wby quite a bit. Loads? Any comments?

Heck of a Round.

70-71 Grains of R22 under a 150 Grain Hdy SPIL Flat Base w/ Wby Brass and Federal 215 primers.

It will flat out slam a whitetail and it exits even the 230+lb deer when both shoulders are hit.

That load will go around 3200-3260 depending on the barrel.

Good Luck!

I'll be taking delivery of a .270 Wby barrel for my R93 next week. Can't wait to see how it shoots.

I am hoping 130 grs TSX over a healthy dose of RL22 will shoot. That is how I intend to start out, in any event.

My friend shoots 140 grs Accubonds, but I forget the powder and charge. His rifle is built on an MRC M1999 LA with an MRC barrel in about a #3 contour - 24 or 25" if memory serves.

I have a lot of experience with varmint bullets if you are interested. What is your barrel length and twist? What bullets are you interested in? I like the ballistic tips for determining the accuracy of various combinations. Both the 130 and 150 grs are interesting. I found I could push the 150s with 75gr H-1000 and Fed 215s for 3270 fps in 24in McMillian barrel (notes say first two touching). 72.5 of IMR 7828 got 3316 fps with Fed 215s (notes show difficult extraction). Both loads used new Winchester 7mm Mag brass (you don't need to buy the 270 Whby stamp).

With 130gr ballistic tips I used 71 gr of R-22 for 3383 and 70 gr of IMR 7828 for 3367.

What I learned was my next barrel will be 26 inches for more performance with 130 gr bullets. In varmint bullets for 10 twist barrels I like 110 gr Hornady or Sierra instead of the 90 and 100 gr offerings.

I have a couple of them (Ruger No. 1 and Accumark). Both are capable of good accuracy with Weatherby factory loads. Pick a well-constructed bullet for big game when you may get a close shot so it holds together and penetrates.

Thanks
Hey 264 Win,
I was actually thinking of the Remington brass in 7mm Wby necked down. I have few boxes of Weatherby 7mm stuff laying around. Weatherby is kind of proud of their brass. How long is the neck of the Win. 7mm Mag brass when it is fireformed???

Although not as inexpensive as 7mm Rem Mag brass, don't overlook the Norma bulk packed .270 Wby brass. It is a bit cheaper than the Wby labelled brass, and comes off the same production line. At least Sinclair's sells it, and probably several other mail order shops. You may be able to find better prices than Sinclair's.

I have one that loves the 140 swift a frame fueled by max loads of 7828 for 3300 fps. Shoots 3" groups at 300yds if I do my part. AND, that bullet is tough to go virtually end to end on most any game animal. I can also load the same bullet down to about 2900 for normal 270 win performance and keep the accuracy.

The .270 Weatherby rules beer!

I have shot mine a few times now and I am absolutly facinated with the ballistics!. My rifle is a pre-64 M70 with a 27" Lilja barrel. Jewel Match trigger, scoped with a Zeiss conquest 4,5-14 x50. The reciever is glassbeded!. I have shot under an inch at 200meters of the bench.

Don’t over look the 130 gr. Barnes TSX. Put it ahead of 72.5 gr. of H4831 and it’s very accurate out of my .270 Weatherby. I am also using this bullet out of my .270 WSM. Lawdog
