3031,4350, and H 4831 are some of my favorites.

My all time favorite bullet is the old 250 Barnes. It's one fine bullet.

Hornady makes a good bullet also, but I have never shot it at game. Should work good in deer.

I think the 348 is one of the best lever cartridges going. All bullets in 348 calibre are designed for the 348 winchester. Jacket thickness, jacket hardness, and lead consistency are all perfected for the 348 and its performance envelope. Few other calibres can make this claim. Most bullets have to be compromised in one way or another to suit a super high performance cartridge or vise versa.

Good luck

Barnes Manual shows IMR 4064 as a good powder.
With 200gr bullets start with 47gr. vel 2300
max 51gr. vel 2496

220gr start 45gr. vel 2191
max 49gr. vel 2386

250gr start 42gr. vel 2032
max 46gr. vel 2225

Hornady shows with their 200gr. bullet and IMR 4064 start 41.8gr vel 2100
max 51.1gr.vel 2400
Hornady recommends IMR4350 start 54.2gr vel 2100
max 60.7gr.vel 2500

Hope this helps.

The .348 Win is a personal favorite of mine. Theres not a lot of bullet selection out there, but besides the ones already mentioned there are the Barnes 200 gr. and 220 gr. X-bullets. To me the performance of the X-bullets is phenominal, perfect expansion and as close to 100% weight retention that you could possibly expect to get.

Another bullet is the 240 gr. North Fork, but this bullet is apparently not yet in production. I'm really keeping my eye on their web site as I have heard excellent reveiws of North Fork bullets and really want to try some out. Heres a link.

A third source of .348 bullets are made by Hawk bullets. I won't use these bullets as I beleive them to be poorly designed and possibly dangerous. There has been several instances lately of Hawk bullets becoming lodged in the barrel when fired and blowing up guns. Also have heard only bad reports on their performace on game, they are too soft and completly flatten out on impact, no penetration. This is all info I've read about, not personal experience, but it sure made me wary about trying them.

The .348Winchester is a dynamite big game cartridge. I have a Brownchester M71 rifle and carbine, along with a Winchester long tang M71 rifle. I have shot the Hawk bullets in all three and not had a problem. They make different jacket thicknesses for different applications. The 250gr.JSP with the .035" jacket thickness is what I use the most. After shooting some Buffalo Bore ammo in the caliber, I like the Alaskan Bullet works 250gr. bullet, too. For deer and antelope, I use the Hornady 200gr. bullet. For animals elk size and larger I use the Alaskan, Hawk, or my own hard cast 250gr.LFNGC from a LBT mold. No penetration or killing problems have been encountered to date. As for powder, I use a lot of H4831SC for the heavy bullets. It meters quickly into the pan, then I trickle the last little bit to desired weight. I hope to get the chance to use the carbine for pig and elk this year. [Cool] RKBA!

Gentlemen check my previous posts on the 9,3x74R and the 450/400 3 1/4" Nitro Express. I have used Hawk bullets with excellent resultson deer and wild pigs.
