If your talking about the S/S gray colored lam Stock they make right now, yes I think it's a great looking rifle and would love to have one.

I really like the looks of the rifle. Plus the Sako 75 action is a pleasure to shoot.

Sempre, I guess it's not a secret that I am a SAKO fan, and the greywolf is one of the few that I don't own one of. I would prefer it over the syn stocked models, as like most factory syn stocks they suck. The laminated cut to your length of pull would make a great weather resistant shooter without any other modifications.

Good shooting--Don

I would love to buy a Sako Grey Wolf. Problem is, they are not available in the US in any of the calibers I would be willing to purchase:
.338 Win Mag
9.3x62
9.3x66
I see they are available in Europe. Is there a hassle free way to get one here?

Don, I had one synthetic 75 and wasn't very pleased with the stock although it was functional. I really like the looks of this one enough to have purchased one today ..should be getting it sometime next week.

AK Hunter

I am sure they would get one as a special order. The agents here in Australia do provided a deposit is made on the rifle. Normally takes about 6 weeks to 2 months.

Sempre, I would think you would like the Greywolf stock quite well. I have several Sako's wearing their factory walnut stocks, and other than shortening them to my length of pull, they are just as received, no bedding yet etc. and they perform really well, all 4 are real shooters.

I have replaced all of my synthetic stocks, mostly with McMillans, a couple with Serengetis, and the Mc's are a great setup just drop in, on a little Marine-Tex, screw em down and go shoot! The Mc's aren't a lot cheaper than the 495 sako quoted J Scott for the wood though..... What caliber did you go with Sempre?
Got your optics picked out yet? I've been using some Leupold Ringmounts on a few rigs lately, they're awful simple which is good, but I think I still prefer Talley's or Warnes--probably the Warnes best.

Don, It's going to be a 300 wsm, should have it next week. As far as scopes I am 99% leaning towards a Swaro AV 3.5-10x42 . This one comes with ring mounts(Optilocks) somehow I know they will be very high so I may ditch them and buy possibly Leupold dovetail bases and rings or maybe conetrol.

Sempre, I have 4 in 300 WSM, damn they all shoot really well. 3 are in McMillans, and one in the factory walnut, shortened .5" It's another story why so many... but there is actually some logic there-or at least I've convinced myself of that.....

3 of them have the Swaro's on em, one a 3.5x10x42, the other's the 4x12x50. One has a 3.5x10x44 Conquest.

I'd be interested in what you think if you go conetrol's.... The Leupy dovetails won't work due to the integral dovetail bases on the SAKO, you have to go with the 'ringmounts' They make a low which is plenty high for the 42 mm objective, but for whatever reason the low one's are only available in gloss. I soaked em in a little Break Free citrus gun scrubber, and that takes the really bright finish down a bit, enough that I just live with that.

Sempre, The Leupold ringmounts slid around on the 2 M-75's I tried them on, a 375 H&H and a 300 Weatherby. I think you are better off getting a set of Low or Extra Low Optilocks or maybe the Controls or Warnes. I guess Fish hasn't had any problems with his Leupolds but I didn't care for them. I still have 1 set mounted but they are on a 223 so I'm not as worried about them slipping as I would be on a Magnum.
I bet the Grey Wolf is going to shoot great, good choice on the scope..................DJ

DJ, that is good feedback on the Leupold ringmounts. I haven't had a lot of experience with them so far. The first set was put on by Hill Country Rifle on a .270 Finnlight, and I've probably got 350 rounds through that rifle and it's been good so far.... the other set is on a .270 WSM I just set up, it has about 50 or so rounds through it so far, and it's not dialed in enough yet for me to be critiquing various components, but the ringmounts seem ok so far, but like I said before, I think I prefer the Warnes.

DJ, you seem to like the optilocks OK, is that right? I don't care for them because it looks like they could rotate on that pin real easily and not be aligned with each other--I'm I off base on that?

Also, as I mentioned to Sempre, I'm real interested in the Conetrols, I've never seen any, and can't find any good literature where I could see how they worked. What's the scoop on them?

Take Care--Don

Don, one of the nice things about the optilocks is that they don't have to be perfectly parallel, the ring inserts adjust for that. The pin is mainly a recoil shoulder.
To me the only real disadvantages to them are that they are heavier than some and a little higher than you want for 40mm or smaller scopes.
I saw a pic of a rifle with the conetrols mounted and I didn't like the way they matched. The silver optilocks match the rifle exactly..............DJ

The new Leupold ring mounts with dovetail bottoms actually have a pin for the rear base. Of course they are marked up ridiculously high on Midway as well as a few other sites. They would be the best solution for mounting a scope although they don't have the polymer insert ala Optilock

Sempre, that's good intel, hadn't seen that version as of yet. I'll check them out this evening.

DJ, thanks for the feedback, I'm still looking to see a photo or actual set of the conetrols.

Don, Midway has them in stock and they show a photo..they are a exact copy of an Optilock base but with Leupold contours and t they accept DD rings. they have a pin on the rear base...and the 1 tightening screw per base.
