What do you think of this round for plains game in Namibia where shots will avg. 2-300 yards? Shot great groups with 150gr. partitions at the range the other day. Will this be enough for Kudu , Wildebeast, Oryx?

Having said that you'd be advised to go .30 cal and even .338 but the .270 is a tested cartridge for plains game.

In June 2004 my dad carried a M70 in 270 WSM to Namibia. Although he had ideas of using my .338 for larger game, he liked the .270 so much that he ended up using it on everything - springbok, impala, warthog, kudu, zebra, and hartebeest. Shooting 140 grain Barnes TSXs it performed just as good on game as my .338 shooting 225 grain TSXs. With well placed shots it will certainly get the job done.

gotta agree with vapodog - 30:06 is better. Interesting article in this months successful hunter on the 270"s - his chrono shows the hornady light mag. 270 outclassing the wssm by a few FPS.
Thanks guys. I have the following: 300 wtby, 30 06, 270 wsm, 7mm rem mag, 375 H&H. Which would you choose? I will practice with all of these with a set of sticks and see what shoots the best. I would really like to take the 375 but I'm not familiar with this round past 100 yds.

My good buddy "Prdatr" has the same gun with a port side bolt. His absolutely waylaid a couple pigs last year using TSX's. IMHO the 270WSM is going to become a classic in the future. I've shot 5 or 6 of them and all were extremely accurate. I think you're really going to like that rifle too........ ........DJ

I shoot barnes bullets quite a bit. I like them. While the oldr X-bullets tend to eoul a-bit, the newer tripple shock has proven to cause less of a problem. As far as the 270,WSM, goes load it as sugjested and you will likly do fine. But at the ranges you mention 200 to 300 yards, I would opt for the 30,06 with the 168 grai tripple shock, if it shoots good for ya...tj3006
