I acquired a .308 Norma Mag on a Sako L-61. Now what do I do with it? I already have a 7 Rem Mag and a .338 WM. Any suggestions? I haven't measured the mag box but it looks like it would handle something a little longer. Thanks..

A 375 Ruger.

Unless you really need something bigger than the .338 you already have, I'd probably keep it just the way it is.

The .308 Norma Mag is a very fine round in its own right, and it's not every day one stumbles across one.

Good find....wish I had found it. Even though I already have a .30/.338, which is virtually its twin (mine's in a Newton action), it never hurts to have two <Grin>

I'd keep the 308 Norma Mag and make the 7mm Rem Mag into something else ... like a .416 or .458 AR.

I made one into a .458 AR

That's a pretty special rifle. I'd use like just like it is.

Since the .308 Norma is what the .300 Win Mag really wanted to be, I'd keep it and rebarrel the 7mm Mag to .257 Wby. After all, the .308 NM will do everything the 7mm will do and more.

I was gonna say the same thing. The 308 Norma is kind of a neat caliber. Why not hang on to it?

When I lived in AK, I built one on an 03-A3. Left the barrel alone, had it rechambered by Shebal's Gun Shop in Fairbanks, and restocked in English walnut by Paul Jaeger Co. in PA. it was a beautiful rifle, and would produce 3150 FPS with the 180-grain Nosler Partition. However, due to the fact that I had a Neidner steel buttplate on it, recoil was 'noticeable". So I settled on a reduced load of IMR 4350 and the 200-grain NP bullet at a MV of only 2850 FPS. But it was a good elk load!

i traded that rifle off, along with a bunch of others, to get a Heym 55/77 O/U combo gun with two sets of barrels. The Heym is a nice "vault queen", but I USED that .308 Norma!!

While not a lot, it is in everyway, shape and form a better designed cartridge than the .300WINMAG. I'm glad you decided to leave it as is.

FYI,
You can use load data for the 308 Norma or the 30-338. They are ballistic twins. I have shot the 30-338 for many years and you have a winner. Try about 71grains of H4831 behind a 180gr bullets w/ 210FC primer. It is Sierra's accuracy load. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Kudude

If you're interested in trading it out, let me know. I have several Sako's but no 308 Norma Mag. Let me know what caliber you like, 222, 243, 308, and we'll see what we can work out.
