1956 pre 64 win in 300 H&H. Appears mint except for a changed recoil pad all is origional. Doesn't look to be shot very much and has only minor handeling marks on it. Bluing is good to excellent.

I've always wanted a 300 H&H and if it's worth it I may take it. SO far asking is 900 but reserve is not met yet. I'm thinking it's almost not worth it at this point. I can put one together for 1500 or so and it would be 100% when I got done with it.

Any input would be helpful.

The jeweling on the bolt and extractor is not good nor original....but the extractor can be buffed off and reblued.....

If I wanted it (and I don't) I'd go $1500 for it as the action can also house the .375 H&H and I'd like the old M-70 for that round. The 300 H&H is also a very classic round

Isn't $1500 a little much for it? The stock and metal are in great shape but, I thought a recoil pad on a pre-64 really hurt it's value. Am I wrong? I would have guessed $900-$1100 tops.

I agree it's been messed with and that lowers the value, in my book anyway. I was thinking of going to 1K and see what happens but I have a feeling that the reserve is pretty high.

Anyone know where to get a pre 64 action that is already opened for this length of cartridge. I'm doing one in 275 Rigby and want to do one in 300 H&H and one in 375 H&H. Make them as matached as I can with components and wood.

I would actually prefer to do it this way than to buy a thousand dollar rifle and then end up tearing it all down so I can build what I want.

So anyone with two pre 64s out there let me know I'll take them off your hands for a fair price.

Fritz!

If it were me, and it has been, I would look for a couple of well used and worn out pre-64s at local gun shows. I have seen 06s and 270s for $450-550. Change the bolt face and add a Mod 70 300 H&H magazine box and your good to go for it. I have a 458 Lott built on a pre-64 06 action and it works like a charm.

the 300 H&Hs are bringing premium prices today and a mint gun is bringing an easy $1900 to $2200....A mint gun with a pad will bring $1600. and on ocassion you can find them for $1100 in excellent condition....

As for this gun, if I wanted one then I would buy it, and worry about the cost down the road, they will just get higher, that you can take to the bank....I sure wouldn't let a couple of hundred dollars beat me out of a gun I wanted, that's about two trips with the family to a resturant or one and half trips to the local grocery store at todays gas prices!! thumb

Buy the gun, you will love it.

About 12 years ago I sold a 300H&H like this one, only in lesser shape, for $900. I'd estimate this rifle is worth $1100-$1500, even with the pad and jeweled bolt. If you're just looking for a pre-64 magnum action, I'd look for a beater for less.

I would try to locate FN Brownie with "chair" rear sight (that eliminates "salt lick" guns). They usually sport better quality wood, "spit 'n' polish", and cost less! Wink
This Winnie looks like a good shooter.....those Winnie collectors are an excentric bunch! The only touch ups they don't mind are those done to that POC Model 21. Roll Eyes

Last year a member found a 300 H&H lunch box gun on a pre 64 M70. I spotted it at the Autum Gun Works. It had all of the Winchester parts and went for $700 +-. The member was from Arizona I think and wanted to make it into a 375.

It's only money. If you have it spend it.

I would call Chris. He knows people and this is where they were made.
