7mm Remington magnum. Deer, antelope, hogs.

168 Berger VLD or 140 Barnes TTSX?

Both tack drivers.

I've killed a few antelope with the 140 TSX and from 150 to past 260 yards they performed perfectly. Caliber sized entry hole, 1- 1 1/4" exit holes and all the soft tissue in between turned to jello. On the hogs they should be magic.

No experience with the VLD

Since you included hogs in the list, I'd say the Barnes hands down. The penetration you'll get from the Barnes makes the load much more versatile.

Doc, The single key to successful bullet performance is penetration to the vitals. That's why so many african hunters return with a new found respect for the so called heavy for caliber bullets. Since both bullets shoot well for you, so which one penetrates further?

Did anyone read the article by John Barsness in either Rifle or Handloader magazine where they went to New Zealand to test Berger VLD match bullets?
They were amazed at the one shot "immediate" kills on goats and stag at some pretty good distances. That was my first exposure to using match bullets for hunting and the article spoke very highly of it.
I'm nod advocating either bullet over the other, just thought I might offer this as a topic of conversation in response to your question.

Doc,

For excellent results with a 7mm Rem Mag, consider using the GS Custom 284130HV. This 130gr bullet performs excellent on South African plains game like Kudu, Bluewildebeest and Gemsbok.

Deer, antelope and hogs will be a piece of cake with this bullet. On top of it you'll get all the advantages of the drive band concept which is unique to GSC bullets.

You can buy some here.

Barnes typically penetrates further. Berger seems to hit harder and is very very accurate, moreso than the Barnes and it is a consistant sub moa load.

However, I've seen several VLDs penetrate all the way through with an average 2cm exit.

Cliff, this is part of the reason I was willing to try the VLD on game to begin with.

Jagter, I've considered getting those bullets to try as well. Thanks.

No question about it Berger bullets are accurte, but I have not seen any thing wrong with the accuracy of the TSX for hunting

300 yard group 180 TSX, 300 Win

425 yard group 180 TSX, 300 Win

IMHO the terminal performance leave nothing to be desired

That has been my experience as well. Which is why I have 1100 Tipped TSX bullets on my bench.
