Please help with load suggestions for 270 Win 130gr Barnes TSX bullets. Somchem's book and website deal only with the Barnes X and I am told that the bands on the TSX allow much higher velocities (less pressure). Also, anyone got a load for the 140 gr Accubond? My rifle likes S385 for 150gr Partitions, but perhaps S365 for the 140's? Thanks

When I lived in the Cape some time ago, I'd just call Somchem, (now Denel) and ask the question. I've since emailed them and gotten a reply back fairly quickly. Denel's small caliber propellants department is under Herman Rabe tel. 27 021 8503017 and his email is: herman.rabe@dlswc.co.za according to the Denel website, www.somchem.co.za Regards

The .270 was made for 4831, I have tried about every powder and its still my choice for velocity and accuracy..Jack O'Connor said so and he was spot on...Fill the case up to the mouth and cram a bullet in.. The loads for the triple x will be the same as for the Barnes X, no difference, regardless of what some may try and make you believe..Your book is good for both, according to Barnes. Thanks. Somchem's website does not allow the "contact us" feature, but I will give Herman a mail. I have found that my rifle likes S365 with 130 grainers and S385 with 150's

What Ray said. Just use the X bullet data. Here's a link to the Barnes info for loading TSXs. Barnes Loading Guidelines for TSXs The short simple version of it is that you might be able to go a hair over the standard X bullet data with the TSXs. LWD

Hello Johan Yes, I did get an email back and was grateful for it, but to be honest it did not help much. All he said was that they have not tested the TSX bullets and so to use the standard Barnes X data, which is conservative. I will do what he says and watch carefully for pressure signs. cheers

Karoo, Johanv, What on earth is it with you guys? Here you are sitting right next to the manufacturer of the most advanced and best monolithic premium grade bullets in the world, having all the loading data for his bullets available at the click of a mouse button and on top of it all his expertise just a phone call or an e-mail away from you!!! Yet, you still waste your time with everything else worth less and probably more expensive as well without proper support to the user thereof! Do yourselves a favour and visit the GS Custom website, or some of their South African distributors' websites and you will have it all available to you in no time. I and many more users of their products, locally and worldwide, can recommend their bullets and testify that they are the best or very, very near to that. Local is lekker and I must add: especially if it is better!

Point taken, Gecko, but there are also some other good products available locally to. One thing local does not have going for it is that I cannot ask a visiting US hunter to pack a couple of boxes from Cabelas in his suitcase and bring them out! I take it, then, you prefer GS bullets to TSX?

You're 100% right in saying that! That is after I and others in our area tried everything local - and that really means from Impalas, Frontiers to Dzombos and all the other lead/copper jacketed local types in between - as well as a number of US and other brands. Including all the different types of Barnes bullets, Berger, Lapua and Norma to mention a few. We then learned from a US hunter first and shortly thereafter from a local hunter, both using GS Custom bullets, what superior design and above all high quality and consistency from batch to batch really means in a bullet. On top of that, the reliable terminal ballistics one gets with each properly placed shot with GSC's, convinced me and others to finally stick to the best premium grade bullet available, namely GS Custom. The choice is yours, but don't lose out if you can win!

Okay, Gecko, accepting that you get what you pay for and GS bullets are high quality, they remain relatively expensive, especially for the hunting I require them for. That said, they remain an option, but which of the designs do you use, HV or HP? I think the SP is for target shooting, but not sure.

We use the GSC HV's for biltong hunting. The US hunter I mentioned earlier also used HV's and FN's as well for dangerous game hunting. You say:
Follow this link and read what GSC's Gerard Schultz said to a client (second Q & A from the top). Now that's just one of the main differences between GSC's and other bullets!

Good answer, but I think you need to claim a commission for marketing his product! (I read the link.)

Dankie Karoo, and Gecko just thought I try some TSX's because someone gave me little more than a 100 of to try!? Cheers Johan
