There are two Husqvarna Mausers on Gunbroker in 9.3x62. One is built on an FN commercial action the other is built on a swedish M96 action. What is the difference between the two actions? Can anyone help?

Says its a m96 but bad photos and appears to have some mods, maybe a new safety shroud

The FN action is a large ring '98 action. In 1947 the Swedes bought 10,000 commercail 98 actions from FN. Those actions were built on until 1962.I have a 1955 8x57 Husqvarna build on one.
The other is a small ring Mauser action, it has 2 locking lugs instead of 3 and does not handle gases from a ruptured case as well. I have both, and for the 9.3x62 I would go for the FN large ring. The FN action is stronger.

The top link is a 9.3 x 57. That's about right in price but you can find one for the same money without the holes drilled in the side rail, ground bolt handle and the aftermarket safety.

The bottom link looks like a '98 to me. That is a little high; should be more like 450-500 if it's a '98.

The M96 actions cock on closing, and do not have the refinements of the FN commercial M98-style actions. No comparison, really......

It's true they don't have the engineering refinements of the 98 but the Husky small ring actions are every bit as well fit and finished as Oberndorf Mausers. With a cock-on-opening kit, a trigger and swing safety and some pretty bottom metal, they make a very nice rig in many useful calibers.

El'D, I did not compare them, just answered the question. As far as refinements, well I would dispute that. I have 7 Small ring 96 actions and 5 large ring 98 Mauser actions. The Swedes are as refined as you can get. The items I pointed out are the drawbacks. Cock on close w/ a glass smooth action is not a drawback. The difference of the receiver & bolt size make the true difference. Are you familiar w/ the FN actions in question? Considering there are/were 10,000 world wide, I tend to doubt it. Swedish steel ruled the presicion world for years. Even The Obendorf M96 was made in Germany of Swedish steel. These rifles are my thing. 6.5x55, 8x57, 9.3x57, 9.3x62 all Swedes.

They are two different animals. The basic features of which have already been covered.

The 96 based rifles in general tend to me to be slimmer, lighter, handier. The 98 based rifles a bit bigger. I prefer the 96's in 9.3x57 but like the 98's better in 9.3x62, the added bulk is appropriate.
