In Walmart the other day to pick up some Gun Scrubber, I stopped to look at their rifles on display. A brown laminated M700 ADL caught my eye...closer inspection showed it was chambered for 270 Win, and had a date code of BX stamped on it, which if I'm not mistaken is January 2002. A search of Remington's web site, and the internet at large doesn't find that model made that way. A second visit to the Walmart and I asked the counter rep if it was a Walmart edition...he got his gun book out and was surprized to find there was no listing for it. He also checked and advised it was the only one he had, and said he could not confirm it was a Walmart edition since he didn't have any NIB. Does anyone know about this M700 version? Price there was $429.95, which seemed like a good value. I have a 1981 M700 ADL in 270 Win that still performs well as a hunting rifle, but am tempted to buy the rifle and transfer my goodies on it to the new one and then sell the remaining rifle to cover some of the cost. Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this one?

Can't offer any specific help on that model though I'd be real tempted to buy it.

About a year ago I saw what I swear was a Ruger 77 with tang safety at Walmart...posted on another and never got a response. Would have been tempted to buy it but it was priced at about $550. No idea what the story was.

Laminated under blue metal...know what you mean about the stainless. The checkering isn't very crisp, but the inletting looked ok and the barrel channel was straight, the stock didn't have any apparent blems. The crown looked smooth and clean, and the bolt and receiver looked and felt good, but the rear scope base platform didn't look like it was machined in a single plane (looked like two), so I decided to pass...
