There is a guy on ebay who bought all of weatherby's 338-06 barrels some marked with cal some not. I was wondering if anyone has experience with these which are probably Krieger Criterian make? Was thinking sleeve to Ruger #3, should make a fairly light rifle, any thoughts?

I bought one of these barrels recently and made a bushing to install on a Mauser. I would not try it with a Ruger. The Mauser has a thread diameter of 1.1". The barrels are threaded 7/8"x18. The Mauser is about as thin as I would go. The Ruger has only a 1" thread diameter. You would be left with a bushing net wall thickness of 1/16" minus the thread depth of a 16 TPI thread. You would likely distort the bushing trying to torque the barrel into place.

Haven't shot it yet. II have to get it in a temporary stock and some sights on (also ammo loaded).

As to the Ruger, my calcs show there would be only .010 to .015 inches of steel in the thinnest spots in the bushing. I would really be hesitant about being able to make it without flexing and torqueing it in place.
