I'm considering the 180 grain Accubond or Swift Scirroco II for my 300 WM. Has anyone compared these two bullets?

I sure hope the Scirroco II shoots better than the original Scirroco bullets.....Many folks agreed that they was of poor accuracy and fouled badly.

Reports I've read are mixed and there remains confusion.

Swift should have changed the name dramatically if they changed the bullet. Reports are not clear if the shooter is using the new bullet or the old one!

It's rare to read a bad report about Nosler's offerings and especially the partitian but the accubond as well.

You will probably hear from 300 winnie on this. He has done an extensive study. As for me the 180 Accubonds shoot the best in my rifle with just about any powder I have tried, RE 22 IMR 4831, H 1000 it's all good.

In the late 90's I bought a mess of X-Bullets. They were expensive, fouled TERRIBLY and performance in game was erratic. They later improved them. I went back to NP's.

A few years ago I bought a mess of Swift .30 Scirrocos. They were expensive, fouled badly and grouped poorly. I went back to NP's.

Pisses me off terribly to be the beta tester for these companies. WHY they can't test a bit more extensively before releasing these new bullets escapes me. Oh Yeah......profit.

Chain,

Thanks for the lead in Wink

The topic of Scirocco II's came up in the Reloading Forum and here is what I had to say:

"Well, since you asked. I used to shoot the original Scirocco in the 180 grain guise our of my .300 Win Mag with the average of all the groups fired with that particular load being .886"

When the new improved version hit the shelves I was elated. I bought a box and went to work. I tried the old tried and true formula...shotgun pattern. I worked it through IMR 4831, IMR 7828, H1000 and even RL22. H1000 teased me for a while, but not consistent. The only thing consistent about those bullets was the shotgun pattern groups.

I thought my gun had gone haywire...until I tried the 180 grain Accubond over RL22. Didn't take long to prove nothing was wrong with the gun.

I went through four powders and a full box (100) of the Scirocco II's in a gun that has shot everything else I have ever put through it reasonably well. They were the exception.

Long story short. I have spent my last money on Scirocco II's."

Here is a pic of the target I used for site in using the 180 grain Nosler Accubond over 76.0 grains of RL22 in new Winchester cases, sparked by Federal 215M primers. Notice the target looks like crap...group was shot in wind and rain.

300winnie a "couple hundred" thank you's I reload for my family and the 30 cal is our common diameter. It's nothing to blast a hundred bullets. I was thinking on the Scirroco II's, with the Accubonds in use already. Now we shall stay with the Accubonds.

For excellent accuracy and minimal meat damage I would suggest you try the Barnes Triple Shocks. You should try to hit bone on close shots for best performance.

I've never had a problem getting the Scirocco IIs to group as well if not better than the ABs.

My average 180 Scirocco groups from my .06 were in the .4s with 4 shots. Same with ABs.

I guess I got lucky? Confused

I've only used the accubonds in 270 and 375 and find that they are very accurate bullets. I have yet to use them on game but would not hesitate to do so. As for the Siroccos my experience is limited to some rounds in the 30-06 which were just so so in accuracy but they were the older run of bullets.
