I have an H-S rifle that came with bases and rings. I would like to replace the bases and was told that the action would take bases for the 700 and was wondering if this is correct?

Yes that is correct. A caveat is that many H&S rifles come with 8/40 screw holes. That would create a small gunsmithing project to install them. I believe most of the recent guns are 8/40. Talley offers Remington bases with 8/40 screws if they interest you.
