My newest toy: Mannlicher-Schoenauer 1950 Carbine in .270 Winchester with a Leupold VX-1 3x9x50 scope. I plan to take this scope off and sell it and replace it with a Leupold 6x42 that has a post and duplex reticle. I was thinking about having it rebored to 9.3x62mm but after talking to JES Reboring there might be issues unless I could find a rotor for that caliber. I have never.been a huge .270 fan but I have killed more deer with one than all the other calibers combined. It seems that when I find a rifle that I have lusted after it always turns out to be chambered in .270 Winchester. It looks like I will have to go forth and slay many beasts with another dang .270, oh well!

I had my M-S in .270 rebored by Delta Gun Shop/Clearwater Reboring and they also converted the magazine to feed 9.3X62. I have had several rifles rebored by them and have always been pleased with the result.

If I were you, I would go one step further and replace the scope with a 4X32. A six power scope on a carbine doesn't make much sense and even a 42 mm objective is overpowering for such a well proportioned little rifle.

I have thought about Leupold's FXII 4x33 with the #4 reticle. It may be perfect for this one.

That is one beautiful rifle.

I just picked up a new CZ 550FS in 6.5x55SE. I have always loved the full stocked rifles and have wanted one since seeing them for the first time.

I had a CZ550 FS in .243 and it was an excellent shooter.

Very nice rifle.

I have never owned a 270, probably never will, the 308 is my calibre of choice in this power range.

Still, I think the 270 is one of the best calibres out there, what is not to like???

I think the ideal Leupold scope for that 270 carbine would be their 2.5 to 8X.
It is about the same size as a 4x and gives you the advantages of a variable.

I have pretty much switched to fixed power scopes for my hunting rifles. I found that even with variables most of the time they were put on 4x or 6x and left there

Went a totally different route and put a Zeiss Duralyt 1.2-5x36mm scope on it with the #6 reticle

I personal would stick a wonderful little 3X Leupold on it, load er up with 170 gr. RN Speers if you can find them, they sure dump deer in a hurry..but the 150 and 160 Noslers work as well and give you some more range..

Nice gun, don't destroy its clean lines and grace with a bulky damn scope.
