I am considering a Hogue overmolded stock for my .270...the one with the full aluminum bedding.
Any experience with this....

I only have one over molded stock and love it.....it grips the hands very well and makes the gun easier to hold on to!

I have the standard version on a .308 I built on a 98 action and love it. No bedding or any thing just put the rifle in it and it still shoots sub MOA with several loads.

On some of the Rugers I've had with factory barrels, the Hogue barrel channel was less than happy. Too much gap.

I have several Hogues on Mausers and Rugers with custom barrels, and I made sure when specifying the contour, shank length, etc., that it would be drop in with a good fit.

The barrel channel for the 458 had to be opened up a bit.

I have one on a 300 WM Ruger, and it fits pretty good. The full aluminum block has a little extra weight, but it makes the forarm stiff. I have only one with the full aluminum block, on the 300 WM and for that rifle I don't mind the extra weight. It shoots great.

Even on a 458WM, the std pillar style stock, flexable forend and all, it has held up, and shoots great.

As mentioned by others, one of the nice things is that it requires no bedding, just drop in. If the barrel channel isn't unsightly with big gaps, then it's a really nice stock.

Here's one with a PacNor barrel #3 contour, which fits well.

Here's one with a 458WM bareled action sitting in it.

Bill,

Yo, we put togther a 98 Mauser-actioned .270 Winchester w/'26 tube and used the full length aluminum bedded Hogue overmolded camo stock.

Like, K-B above, we (our bad) mistakenly ordered the wrong Lothar Walter tube and had to send it back to get a best fit for the barrel channel.

After that, it was just drop-in.

Works Cool, Looks Cool!

Another squeeze has the green overmolded that comes with the factory .223 Rem Howa Heavy Barrel, also nice. Sure wish they made 'em in Left-Hand!

Functional but chunky. That flared pistol grip is so 1960s. Obviously they never heard of the classic style. Roll Eyes

It's there for the same reason there's a flare on a baseball bat, and the head of your pecker. So your/her hand don't slip off easily. Wink
It's a natural. Functional and chunky - right on.

Kidding aside, you guys that don't like the grip - are you of that opinion because of the way it looks or the way it feels?

I just really dislike the feel and appearance of that huge grip.

I have two, one on my 338 and one on my 10-22. I really like the way the 338 handles recoil. I have also wondered how far you could cut the grip back before running into the underlying skeleton of the stock. I haven't tried it but I might on the 22.

Couldn't give me one with a $20 bill. Feels and looks like shite in my hands and eyes. But we all have choices to suit our needs and many apparently need this stock. Went through college doing some shooting, drinking and general carousing with Aaron Hogue, a great guy then and I am sure, 25 years later, still the same.

I can live with how the pistol grip fits the hand but I do not like the feel of rubber against the cheek. Too sticky.

I think they function very well and the only thing I don't like about them is their weight. They just make a rifle too heavy for my liking but some shooters like some heft to a rifle, especially large magnum calibers. Just my .02c worth.

I am waiting for one to arrive for a Savage 11. They are very difficult to get in Canada (commercial export issues for rifle stocks but not shot gun stocks). For the price they're great, Midway has them for $99! (just the std pillar bedded model). Too bad I can't just order one online!
