Looking to trade in a .280 that just won't shoot for me. I handled a Savage 116 Weather Warrier and it felt pretty good. I am considering a 7-08 or 308 for deer out to 350yds. I have all the components for the 308, and have heard a lot of good things about the 7/08. Wouldn't be tackling anything larger than Mule Deer, as I have other tools in the shed for Elk and Moose.
Anyone have some experience with this rifle they wouldn't mind sharing? I am especially interested in first shot consistancy.

I have one in 7mm-08 and it is a very accurate rifle. It has the Accu-trigger and it is the Model 16. They have cheezy stocks that are pillar bedded, but they really work. Out of the box accuracy is scary. My son has two--one a .270 and the other a .338 Win mag. My LH 7mm-08 was one of the first ones Savage made. I had sent a letter to Ron Coburn, the owner of Savage Arms telling him how bad I wanted a LH Weather Warrior in 7mm-08, and darn if I didn't have one the next year.

I had one in 300 WSM. It was a typical Savage rifle, cheap and ugly, but shot fairly well.

They will definitely get the job done.

The Main thing I disliked about the rifle is the lack of a recoil pad and the poor stock design. Due to those flaws, it had the most percieved recoil of any magnum rifle I've ever owned. I'd rather shoot a properly built 375HH than that little sob.

Good Luck

I have one in a 7 Rem Mag...

It is definitely an accurate rifle that is for sure..

I have ordered another stock for mine, that I have received, its laminate from Richards.. I need to finish it...

I have also gotten the ends to change the bolt from a magnum to a 308 bolt face...
I was looking to put a varmint weight barrel on it, in 6mm Rem..

Mine has the accu trigger...

I had my son look at tons of left handed rifles, since he is a lefty.. and he fell in love with the Savage 16 lefty ( I think the name Weather Warrior motivates 13 yr olds)....

I am planning on getting him a lefty in 243 to start out with... a few friends that have borrowed my 7 Mag have offered to buy it from me...
