I am considering adding another Savage left handed stainless rifle to the battery. Very few stores up here stock them to look at so I have a question. Does Savage use a different sized action for the rifles they sell in short calibers (.243, 7mm/08, .308, etc) versus the longer calibers? The reason I ask is because the only reason I am considering buying another is to build up a lighter weight rifle. Savages website lists the same weight for both.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

They reintroduced a proper short action sometime in the last five years.

Probably in the neighbourhood of 3-4 oz. If you shorten the barrel to 20" like I have on my Savage Sierra in 7mm-08 you can pick up a couple more ounces. If I'm out all day it sure makes a difference at the end of the day.
