I see some Marlin 336 rifles with a 3/4 length magazine and no barrel band. They seem to be older models. I really like the styling. Does anyone know what years these were produced?

A number of 336's have been manufactured in this style. The most recent being the 336D .35 Remington "guide gun". Older rifles include the 336A and 336SC models in 30-30, .35 Rem, and some in .32 special.

The current .444 cal and .45-70 rifles (not the "guide gun" carbines) are of this style.

The 336A with 24" barrel and half mag was offered as recently as 1983 I believe. Also offered was the M375, a 336 in .375 Winchester caliber.

The 336A's have 24" barrels, and the 336SC (sporting carbines) have 20" barrels.

A little looking on the auction sites or the used gun racks should turn up several examples of each. They are not rare.

I have a Marlin Glenfield Model 30,which has a
20 inch barrel with the short magazine.According to the serial number it was manufactured in 1968.

I used to have a Glenfield Model 30 as well, with the 20 Inch barrel and short magazine tube. It was also made in the late 60's. The short magazine may have only been in the cheaper Glenfield line at the time. I actually preferred how it looked, hence bought mine second hand from the original owner.

I had to sell it a few years ago for far too little money when I was pressed to make an insurance premium payment. I'll NEVER make that mistake again. The next time I ran into a problem, I got rid of my wife instead...

My brother got his first rifle for Christmas in 1972. It was a brand new Glenfield Model 30, but had the full length magazine tube. Things must have changed in that 1970ish time frame.
