Are there any factory 7.62X39 "bolt action" rifles being made?
If so who?

You could get Zastavas here in Oz.

They MAY be some sort of Remington in the US.

Beware of the Ruger. The stainless sythetic one i had years ago had to have to bore lapped it was so rough, had to be rebedded and the trigger, well it was a Ruger trigger that need hours of work to be acceptable (3 pounds no creep).
Today people get huge money for them just because.
The CZ is 10 times the rifle (as are all CZs compared to Rugers, except early red pad No. 1s and 77s)

Yes you are right Zastava's were imported into the U.S. under several names but they are still Zastava's. Remington 799, Charles Daly and others .

And honestly I would take a Ruger any day. I've found a couple to be finicky but once you played with a couple things I've never had trouble getting them to shoot.
The triggers can be rough but I "work" on them about 30 minutes and it makes a world of difference. They are a very nice rifle.

I had one of Rugers M-77 in 7.62 X 39 m/m which shot very accurately. Harvested several Deer with it here in Ky.

Pretty little rifle - must carry like a dream. I have the full stock version in 223 a nd like it (a lot).

I do NOT like the protruding mag, though and wish they made in a double column or something.

Alternatively they could project the bottom of the mag, below the stock into hyperspace and you could shoot forever and never reload. Big Grin

Bren7X64, I know what you mean about the protruding clip I have a Marlin 22 mag. with a clip that sticks out less than that. I don't know how many times I have gouged it into my hand or caught it on something but it has been a bunch. Like you were eluding, they could just design it to accept standard AK clips then you could use 30s,40s, 75 rder. or just go with a small 5 round AK clip.

If you search the internet, you'll find that a fellow converts the detachable magazine from 5 rounds to three and does something with the trigger guard, too, I think.

I was at a friends house two weeks ago and his CZ 7.62x39 was modified and it looked much better. That said, I've not modified mine and don't plan to.

I have one of the canoe paddle rugers in 7.62x39. I bedded it and did some trigger work, and it shoots great. A couple deer and a forkhorn moose taken so far, mostly just fun to shoot though.
The fellow you are looking for that does the CZ work is RoyB here on AR. rvb precision.com
Looks like very nice work on his site.

Thanks. This is my woods loafing rifle when I don't want to be encumbered with a heavier rifle. Plenty of power for my kind of hunting from deer to pests. I'd love to have a F/S but, CZ doesn't offer one for the 7.62. How does your F/S shoot?

I thought about one with a 358 barrel. 9X39! Use 200 gr bulk Remingtons or Barnes 180 and 200 gr bullets. There may still be a Hornady SSP in 180 gr too.

Not all that great - I can get about 1.5 " groups at 100 which, when I consider just how darned cute the thing is, is fine. I bought it to slaughter baboons and jackals back in RSA with and it'll certainly be on for that out to 300 yards.

I never wanted a FS, because i knew it would probably not shoot all that well what with bedding and so on, but it was so cute and it followed me home, I had to keep it. Plus the stock (for CZ) is A grade.

I have one of those Leupold 2-7x28 scopes on it and the size is perfect and it handles like a dream.

That said, one of the editors for Sporting Shooter (an Aussie shooting mag) has one like mine and did a bit of tuning and showed photos in the mag of 5 shot groups with all holes cutting, so it can be done. (sub 1" at 100yards)

I have a Savage and like it. It has a .308 bore not the .311 that many have. I handload all my ammo. The 130 gr Hornady is very accurate and the 150 is accurate as well. Near 30-30 performance/QUOTE]

Howa has their mini 1500 rifle in 7.62X39 along with 6.5 Grendal. Very light, slick rifles.

Shoot straight, shoot often.

I have a Savage in 7.62x39 that started as a scout. I didn't think I could get used to a scout scope, so I removed the thumb gouging picatinny rail and mounted a conventional scope. It shoots the Tula 154gr steel
case ammo in 1 and a half in. groups. I'm very pleased with it. I shot the same stuff in a Saiga and got grapefruit sized groups and didn't know which to blame, the steel cased ammo or the AK action. I've bought the same round labeled Wolf, Cabelas' Herters and now in 40 round Tula boxes. It's fun to just go out and shoot a rifle without scrambling around in the weeds looking for the brass. The rifle has been discontinued
and aren't cheap as this model has the accustock as well, but you can make it up with the cheap ammo.
