I now have rifle, cases, & dies for a Winchester m70 in a brown laminated stock 300 WSM. I have IMR 4350, H4350, H4831 & RL 19. I have Hornady & Sierra Flat base 180's. What would you use to start load development? I plan to load 20 rounds to sight in the rifle & shoot a few groups.. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Tom, I would start with either one of the 4350s first. If they don't pan out, then go to the RL 19. The Sierras will more than likely will be the most accurate.
Good luck. The WSM is a good one.

x2. I will add that when I first got mine intended on 165 grain premium bullets. Well, they didn't pan out so well. However, I just found out it the 180 accubond has some good potential and the 200 accubond looks to shoot very well.

Don't be afraid to try different bullet weights. Mine also loves the 110 vmax? Go figure.

Find some RL-17 if you can. After messing around with all sorts of 300 WSM combinations, I found that it is worthy of the hype and easily produces velocities over 3000 fps. My final load that shoots sub-MOA is 65.5 gr RL-17, TTSX 180 gr, 2.85 COAL, CCI 250 primers, Win or Fed cases, 3080 fps avg.

Start at 60 gr and work up from there.

I have used many a pound of RL17 and it does mee tthe hype as you suggest. I'm glad to see you found good results with 300WSM and RL17. I am going to give it a shot (pun HA). I found IMR4007SSC superb in a few of my 300WSM's but that is the only use I have for that powder. I'd love to find RL17 working great for my 300WSM's.

My second best powder for 300 WSM was IMR4007SSC as you found but way short on velocity and not as good for accuracy! Oh FWIW, my rifle is a Kimber Montana, 24" barrel.
