In October I will be going on my First ever Elk hunt and was wanting to use a hevyer bullet for this hunt . Wondering if any one out there has ever loaed the 210gr Berger VLD bullet in a 300 Weatherby Mag and what speeds you go out of it and groups, I was told that the shots should stay with in 200 yards put they do see them out to 400 yards, now I know I can seet them down quite a ways so they can fit in my mag but I was also wondering if any one has loaded them out a little and used them as a single load style round ????

Thanks

Probably not what you want to hear but a 180gr Nosler Partition is all you need. Bergers will work but as long as there are choices, why not use a good proven controlled expansion bullet? The elk will even thank you for a good clean kill.

Try the 200 gr. Partition. It's all that I've used out of my .300 Weatherby for the past 13 years. H1000 is a good powder behind it in my experience. As far as any advantages a VLD bullet may have, it won't show up til much farther out than 400 yards.

well after talking with some guys today I think my choice will be a 180gr Nosler Accubond, and my second choice is going to be the Barns 180gr MRX, I am going to load some up with differnt powders H1000,H4831SC and if i can find some Hybrid 100V like to try that too and see what works I have 10 boxes of the MRX laying on my desk so have to try them out......

180 gr Partitions have kept my freezer full of elk meat for the past 30+ years.

I'm currently putting together a .300 Weatherby for my new elk rifle. I hope it will like 180 gr TSX's.

I took 220 gr Hornady's to Africa in my .300 WM. They were extremely accurate, not to mention hard hitting.

I've shot those, but only deep seated so they'd work in the magazine. Ogive has to start right at the case mouth. I've thought of seating them long for single loading, but never have gotten a round tuit. I wouldn't hunt with these bullets.

I want to update my previous post. I used the 220 Hornady's and they worked, no doubt. I just weighed the bullet that killed my Sable. Muzzle velocity was 2800 fps, distance 125 yards. Recovered weight 122.8 grs.

If I had it to do over again, and I do, I would shoot either the Swift A Frame or Barnes TSX.

Diameter on this bullet is .509
