Does anyone know who makes the longest Length of Pull rifle stocks for deer or varmint rifles as part of regular production? I am one tall SOB (...don't tell my mother that...) 6'5" and if you go by LOP--crease of elbow to natural trigger finger position--I'd need an LOP of 17 3/4 inches. I've been shooting mostly Remingtons and a Sako, and I've found most other rifles are way too short for me. I really like my Jungle Carbine, but I usually punch myself in the nose if I forget which rifle I'm shooting. Short of ordering from the custom shop or building my own, I am probably SOL. But is anyone aware which manufacturer makes the longest butt-stocks?

17 3/4 inch LOP? Wow that is a hell of an LOP! You should consult a stock expert on your fitting. My bud who is 6 8" gets by with a LOP of 14.25 to 14.5. Jeffee any comments or suggestions? I'm 6'4" with a 36/37 sleeve and do well with a LOP of 14" on a bolt rifle. John There are those that do, those that dream, and those that only read about it and then post their "expertise" on AR!

Sako rifles other than the current model 85 all had long LOP. I don't know why the 85 was made shorter. Although I don't like the look of them, I sometimes use a slip on pad to lengthen a stock LOP.

Like your friend, I manage to get by, but it is not a great fit. (In my world, I'd be able to find XL shirts made with XXL or XXXL arms sewn on.) Agreed LJS, I noticed the new Sako 85 did seem shorter what I got to see one; I have a Sako 75 Deluxe (I wish I had 10 more, but one will have to do unless I unexpectedly luck into a lot of money!) and it fits better than the rest, but my trigger finger would naturally be about mid-bolt. I have more Remingtons than anything else, and I tolerate the 13 1/2 inch LOP. On the bench I hardly notice it, but I can't help but wonder how much steadier I'd be for shooting off-hand with a proper stock. JKS, what rifles do you find fit the best? Rugers appear longer in the catalogue, but I've never had one in my hands. I suspect before I find a great fit, I'll probably end up learning how to make stocks; I think you are right about getting fitted/measured. I cant help but wonder what my 6'11" teenage kid is going to do when he stops growing!

What I would do if I were you is buy guns with std. buttplates. It's then pretty easy to add different length recoil pads to lengthen the LOP. With 1/4" buttplates you could add a 1 1/4" recoil pad and gain an inch. They also make black spacers that you can add to the front of the pad to lengthen them even more. Adding a slip-on pad over the lot would give you even more length but putting a slip-on over a rubber recoil pad gives a "squishy" feel I just don't like - you might try it though to establish a final length. Of course the best option is a custom stock that you can have made to your desired length, of course the best option is the most expensive. Try a thick recoil pad to add length first..................................DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

True. It would be ideal if you could get really large recoil pads, 2" 3" 4" etc.

I think that your stock fitting theory is all wrong! In essence the way to fit a bolt rifle is to shoulder it, take aim at an object, then have a friend open the bolt and pull it all the way back. If it doesn't hit your cheek the stock is the right length. Or too long. Ideally the clearance should be about 1". Certainly in Canada you may find a LONG STOCK for a No4 that you can modify to fit your No5.
